Toddler Dead After Possibly Ingesting Gasoline
Boy Dies After Possibly Drinking Gasoline Updated: Wednesday, 29 Jun 2011, 12:05 PM CDT Published : Wednesday, 29 Jun 2011, 12:05 PM CDT BROWNVSILLE, Texas (AP) — A South Texas toddler has died after possibly drinking gasoline from a lawn mower. Cameron County Sheriff Omar Lucio says the victim was 2-year-old Leonardo Silva of Brownsville. Lucio says the toddler's mother briefly left the child alone Monday morning outside the family's mobile home. The child was later found unconscious. The boy died Monday night at a hospital. Lucio said Tuesday that investigators at first thought the boy had inhaled gasoline fumes. The sheriff says deputies later determined a lawn mower's gas cap was removed and some type of tube or pipe had been in the fuel tank, leading to an investigation into whether the boy drank the gasoline. An autopsy has been ordered. |

Doesn't seem right to me either. I just don't see a 2 year old looking for a hose, sticking it in the lawn mower and then drinking it. Also, who leaves a 2 year old outside by themselves at a trailer park? I'll be keeping my eye out for an update. Poor kid.  |

petroleum products inhaled and ingested is bad news. If he ingested it, he would have massive esophogitis and all the tissue from the tongue to his lungs would be very inflamed, resulting in pulmonary edema. Does sound fishy, but not impossible. I just want to know how long mommy was gone for this little guy to get into that shit???? Poor little guy |

I know 2 year olds can be smart. my nephew is 2 almost 3, but then again most gas caps are screwed on fairly tight on mowers and somthing i doubt he'd be able to undo.... very fishy indeed |

True about being ingested. Typically as long as he didn't aspirate the gasoline from his stomach into his lungs it should not be fatal. Rarely do simple ingestions of hydrocarbons cause death without significant aspiration. Kinda fishy... Poor kid |
