Tipsy Teen Tumbles, Trapped 2 X 24h 'tween Towers
Stuck NYU student Asher Vongtau was drinking and fell into crevice between buildings, he tells cops. Teen was wedged in gap for about 36 hours and suffered a fractured skull and broken ribs in plunge MONDAY, NOVEMBER 4, 2013, 11:37 PM  Mom, Habiba Vongtau, leaves Bellvue Hospital on Monday after visiting her son Asher Vongtau, who fell from his dormitory at NYU. THE NYU student who was rescued after being trapped for almost two days in a space between two Lower Manhattan buildings told cops he was drinking at a party and later slipped and fell into the gap, police sources said. Asher Vongtau, 19, wound up wedged between a NYU dormitory at 80 Lafayette St. and a next-door garage. He suffered broken ribs and a fractured skull, police sources said.  JOE MARINO/NEW YORK DAILY NEWS Vongtau is rushed to hospital Sunday after being extricated from space between buildings downtown. University officials said he was reported missing at 12:30 a.m. Sunday by a student. Vongtau was last seen leaving the dormitory about 7 a.m. Saturday.At 4:30 p.m. Sunday, the university received a report that Vongtau may have gone to the roof, NYU spokesman John Beckman said. The search area was expanded after a check atop the roof yielded nothing. Beckman said a cop found an iPhone on a fire escape with a photo of the missing student on it. “He hears the student moan and then he called the NYPD and the FDNY,” Beckman said.  NYU sophomore Vongtau told police he had been drinking at a party before he slipped and fell early Saturday, setting off frantic search and dramatic rescue. Rescuers broke through the garage wall around 6:20 p.m. to reach Vongtau, about 36 hours after he had fallen, officials said. Beckman said it wasn’t clear what floor the student had fallen from.
