They Adopted Her as a Little Girl. Then They Learned a Horrifying Truth About Her…

When Jeffrey and Laurene Sikorski adopted their little girl from Poland over 10 years ago, they could have never imagined she’d try to kill their family.

Laurene recalls a happier time when she and her husband flew 4,000 miles to Roksana’s orphanage where they met for the first time:
“She was bubbly. She gave me a big hug. She called me Momma. She was just happy she was going to have a mom.”

But in 2014, things took a turn for the worse when she began a romantic relationship with 22-year-old Michael Rivera. The then-15-year-old stabbed her 12-year-old brother in the throat with a knife at the direction of her boyfriend, according to WXYZ News.

As the Detroit News reports, her other sister screamed when she realized what was happening, which led to Roksana fleeing out the bedroom window.

Rivera was later arrested and charged with attempted murder — he’s currently serving a life sentence.

In a tear-filled courtroom Monday, Roksana was sentenced to 10-20 years in prison after pleading guilty to one count of assault with intent to murder.

Despite nearly losing their son two years ago, the Sikorskis remain firm that she was acting out of anger about her parents’ disapproving of her relationship. The couple recently told the Detroit News that Roksana had “no intention” to hurt them:
“She was being instructed to do it. He was using her to get to us. She thought he cared about her.”

The texts between Roksana and Rivera, which were provided by the Sikorski family, paint a dark picture in how he wanted them killed:

Sikorski apologized before her sentencing, making the already emotional day that much harder for her loving parents:
“I would like to apologize to my family for not being the daughter they wished I would be.”

To this day, Sikorski’s parents feel their daughter should never have been tried as an adult.
