A Murder Victim's Parents Say Cops Should Use Foul-Mouthed Parrot As a Witness
After Michigan man Martin Duram was killed in May 2015, police suspected his wife Glenna of carrying out a botched murder-suicide. She was shot in the head during the incident, and there were notes on the scene that were described by one family member as "suicide letters." But as the Independent reports, Duram's family now says there's a witness to the killing who was never interviewed—an African gray parrot who was filmed saying "Don't fucking shoot!" in a pretty distressed voice. Lillian, Martin Duram's mother, and her husband, Charles, insist Bud was always mimicking Martin and Glenna, and would like the police to consider using him as a witness. In an interview with a local TV station, Lillian said, "That bird picks up everything and anything, and it's got the filthiest mouth around." "In my mind, it's something that he's heard, definitely heard before," she said. "And if it's fresh in his mind, he might even say it more now." The couple fought often, and Duram's parents had previously said that it was an argument that had gotten out of hand. Even though this may have actually happened (the bird heard it and is saying the truth) its a bird and this is the definition of reasonable doubt.

Absolutely - the detective on the case said that he was aware of the "talking bird", but it wouldn't be possible, within reasonable doubt, to prove that the bird was mimicking an actual murder event.

He could have been mimicking a tv show, film or something. Very dodgy as evidence. Funny hearing a bird saying "don't fucking shoot"  |

They say it's the victim's voice but it sounds like a parrot to me. It probably is mimicking the victim but that doesn't prove the wife did it anyway. |

Those birds are really really smart. They know their owners. He heard it and is repeating because he's probably traumatized. You can defiantly hear the difference in the voices even though it still is a parrots voice. Crazy

Parrots are creepy. My friend had one that used to fly around the room and I'd be diving for cover every time. And it bit me, the little bastard.

I watched one of those Investigation Discovery shows and this guy's pet bird tried to protect him when he was being murdered. The killer stabbed it and killed it with a fork but it had the killer's DNA or something in his beak or claws or something like that. So a bird has gotten someone convicted before.  |
