Texas Mall Shooting - El Paso
El Paso police say fight between 2 groups led to fatal shooting at Cielo Vista Mall UPDATED: FEB 17, 2023 - A owner described the horrifying scene as she watched a 17-year-old die inside her shop during Wednesday’s shooting inside Cielo Vista Mall in El Paso, Texas. An argument between four young men, identified as being in their late teens to early 20s by police, broke out in front of the stoare near the food court of the mall, owner A.G. told the media on Friday. “The kid died here in the store; it’s been really tough,” she said. A.G. said she did not know what sparked Wednesday’s gunfight, but it turned violent when someone opened fire in front of her business — causing panic and chaos among shoppers. After shots rang out, the injured teen ran into the store that sells flashy dental accessories where A.G. was working, where he bled out. A.G., who has personally also had to deal with the death of a child, said she could not release more information about what happened before she meets with the deceased teen’s mother. “She contacted me through mutual people we know,” she said. “Before I say anything more, I want to give her the opportunity to ask what she wants. If there’s anything I can do as a mother to help her, I’m going to give her that.” UPDATED: FEB 16, 2023 - A random fight between two groups of young men at Cielo Vista Mall on Wednesday night led to a person being killed and three others injured, El Paso police said. The fight happened around 5 p.m. when the two groups got into a fight at the mall's food court, El Paso Police Department interim police Chief Peter Pacillas said. A person in one of the groups then pulled out a gun and fired it, Pacillas said. Police did not release information on whether the other group also had guns and whether they returned fire. The shooting is not believed to be gang related, Pacillas said. One person is dead and three others injured after a shooting Wednesday evening at the Cielo Vista Mall in El Paso, Texas, according to police. Two men are in custody, said Sgt. Robert Gomez of the El Paso Police Department. He did not comment on a possible motive. “It was chaotic. People did flee. They were scared,” said Gomez. Two male victims were brought to the University Medical Center of El Paso in critical condition, the hospital confirmed to CNN. The condition of the third victim, who Gomez said was also hospitalized, is unclear. The mall is immediately adjacent to a Walmart where a shooting in 2019 killed 23 and left nearly two dozen more injured. The 24-year-old gunman pleaded guilty to 90 federal charges last week as part of a plea deal. So far this year, there have been more than 70 mass shootings across the United States, according to the Gun Violence Archive. Both CNN and GVA define a “mass shooting” as a shooting that injured or killed four or more people, not including the shooter. Police responded to the Cielo Vista Mall shortly after 5 p.m. local time Wednesday after receiving several reports of a possible active shooter, Gomez said. Authorities asked people to avoid the area as the scene was still active. The scene was later secured but police and law enforcement from several agencies were still working to clear the mall Wednesday night, Gomez said, noting that it may take some time given the size of the shopping center. Investigators preliminarily believe the shooting took place around the mall’s food court, Gomez said. Robert Gonzalez was in the mall and told CNN he “saw people running to the exit.” Videos taken by Gonzalez show several mall storefronts closed with their security gates down and several law enforcement vehicles outside as an ambulance arrives. Video from another witness also showed an ambulance arriving. Gonzalez said he was able to make it safely to his car, where he was waiting to leave as he spoke with CNN. He recalled the 2019 mass shooting, saying today’s experience “just brought back bad memories.” A reunification center has been set up at nearby Burges High School, where people who are unable to contact their loved ones may go for information, Gomez said. Re: Texas Mall Shooting - El Paso
Leadership has naught to do with America's shooters. It's the shooters that are reponsible. If you still think it's leadership, well, then bless your heart. Had you read the article, you would understand the context of Ride's post & my agreement. It's the 9th paragraph down. The "small area' that Ride and I discussed is quite literal. In 2019 there was a shooting right next door at the the Walmart that killed 23 & injured two dozen. You can about that shooting right HERE. In the future, it would behoove you to read the tl:dr vs relying on subsequent posts. Whilst, I respect your opinion, I do hope you can respect ours. It's ok to agree to disagree. |

It really does have to do with leadership because leadership dictates how the police and judges respond to criminal elements. And you dont have to tell Mr about the El Paso shooting, some dumb broad almost called the cops on me because I was open carrying after it happened, but before I knew about it. |

Lighten up, Francis. Does it really matter who or whom the leadership of an area is? Bad people gonna do what bad people do, no matter who is the sitting mayor/chief of police/sheriff/representative/senator/president may be. Point. They share a parking lot FFS. Have you ever even been to El Paso? |

Re: Texas Mall Shooting - El Paso
Well something had changed in the US. I watched a Louisiana rep. who previously was a badass police chief, who directly called out known killers and criminals, talking about the number of mass shootings in our country. The number one comment he made that really led to my thinking a lot was that after WWII, thousands of men and women scarred by the war surely with now recognized mental issues like PTSD returned home. The vast majority of homes were armed at the time because our country had actually been attacked. Additional ly, most home did not even have locks on the doors much less being secure, but mass shootings didn't occur, especially not weekly. So, I ask, "What changed in late 60s to now"? From 1966 to 2022, the National Institute of Justice has recorded 163 mass shootings in the US with that ranking over a third of all in the world. The rest of the world has the same exact issues with mental, social, and family problems. What happened to our country?
