Re: Sri Lanka Easter Morning Bombings kills at least 207 290 killed so far and at least 500 injured. A Sri Lankan government forensic crime analyst tells that the six near-simultaneous attacks on three churches and three luxury hotels in and around Colombo on Easter Sunday were carried out by seven suicide bombers. The government analyst Ariyananda Welianga says an analysis of the attackers' body parts collected from the scenes shows that the attacks were suicide bombings. Welianga says two people were involved in the attack at the Shangri-La hotel. One bomber each attacked the Cinnamon Grand and Kingsbury hotels and St. Anthony's Shrine in Colombo, St. Sebastian's church in the city of Negombo and Zion Church in the city of Batticaloa. Two bombings hours later at a guesthouse and near an overpass on the outskirts of Colombo are still under investigation. Suspects detonated explosives at a safe house near the overpass blast, killing three officers. One suicide bomber was holding his plate, waiting in line for easter breakfast in the Cinnamon Grand hotel and when it was his turn he blew himself up among the many families. On Sunday evening it was revealed in a leaked memo that police had been warned of a potential attack by the Nations Thawahid Jaman (NTJ), an Islamist group led by Mohomad Saharan. It is unclear whether the information related to Sunday's bombings. The Prime Minister of Sri Lanka has said he and other ministers had not been warned. Sajith Premadasa, minister of housing construction and cultural affairs, said the officers had acted with "negligence and incompetence." Analysts, however, have cautioned against rushing to conclusions. Dhruva Jaishankar, a fellow in Foreign Policy Studies at Brookings India, said the NTJ is a little-known group, which has previously defaced Buddhist statues, and was unlikely to have the capacity or sophistication to execute an attack like Sunday's without assistance. |

The ages of those who passed away on Sunday has not been disclosed. |

Re: Sri Lanka Easter Morning Bombings kills at least 207 Sri Lankan police have arrested 24 people in connection with a series of devastating suicide bombings. The government on Monday blamed National Thowheeth Jama’ath, a little-known radical Islamist organization, for the bombings. An official said the group, which had not carried out any serious attacks before, had help from “an international network.” • Sri Lanka’s security forces were warned at least 10 days before the bombings that the group planned suicide attacks against churches, but apparently took no action against it, indicating a catastrophic intelligence failure. Top government officials say the warning never reached them. |
