A Jeffersonville man was jailed Friday after prosecutors said he badly beat his 4-year-old son and burned his genitalia with a cigarette lighter.

Logan Wallace, 34, had his first court appearance in Clark County. He's being held in Clark County Corrections on a $250,000 bond.

Wallace told a judge he was disciplining the child because he misbehaved, but prosecutors called it battery and said the boy could have died.

After a weeklong visit with his dad, court documents showed the boy came home to his mother burned, bruised, swollen and scabbed.

"The mother hoped that this would be some time the children could spend with their father. They hadn't had routine visits, and it turned out horribly," Clark County Deputy Prosecutor Linda Lamping said.

Lamping has brought 15 felony charges against Wallace after police said he abused the boy inside his Jeffersonville apartment two weeks ago.

"He does have a temper. I just never thought he would do that though," a neighbor, who asked not to be identified, said.

Wallace is accused of hitting the boy with a belt and his open hand, leaving him bruised on his back, buttocks, cheek and head.

Court records showed the boy was punched in the stomach and pushed onto the corner of a box spring, which caused a laceration to his liver.

"Upon finding the laceration of the liver and the internal bleeding, we've been advised by medical personnel that he could have easily died as a result of this," Lamping said.

Lamping said the boy's 11-year-old brother was there as Wallace burned the 4-year-old's chest and nipple with a cigarette lighter.

Court records showed Wallace even admitted to burning the boy's genitalia because he urinated on the floor.

"That is crazy," the neighbor said. "For a person to do that, they need to be locked up."

After the visit, authorities said Wallace put his boys on a TARC bus and sent them across the river to their mother's house alone.

Prosecutors said they believe the 11-year-old was also abused and more charges may be filed.
