Six Flags Puts Final Piece on New Wooden Coaster Goliath There is no fucking way I would get on this one! ![]() Six Flags Great America announced Saturday that it has secured the last section of its165-foot-high roller coaster Goliath, now the world's fastest wooden roller coaster. The Gurnee, Ill. park said it is in the final stages of construction on the roller coaster, which will open to the public in a few weeks. Goliath is the first wooden roller coaster in the world to propel riders upside-down through two separate maneuvers, the organization said in a release. The ride required a total of 300,000 feet of lumber, 70,000 bolts and 40,000 hours of work to build. |

Re: Six Flags Puts Final Piece on New Wooden Coaster Goliath Neat to look at, but there is not enough money on the planet for me to ride any more roller coasters...was tramatized by the Matterhorn at Disneyland when I was 3, (excellent parenting, Mom! ![]() ![]() That said, wooden coasters are awesome functional sculptures. We have one at Playland (Vancouver's amusement park and PNE fairgrounds in the summer). It's ~60 years old and extremely well maintained. ![]() |
