the Crime(a) was till 1954 russian. hance all the russian speaking folks in south and east Uk. Plus in Sevastopol is 1 harbour of the Russian sea fleet. Now Russia rents Sevastopol harbour. |

The U.S. isn't going to do a goddamn thing besides send money (something to the tune of $35 billion, last I heard a few days ago). The same line was drawn with regards to Syria, and America did nothing. Not only is it getting harder and harder to sell the people on foreign military involvement on "humanitarian" grounds, but our military is set to undergo a drastic reduction. This country spent decades positioning itself as a world-policing nation, and now that position is being gradually abandoned; countries like Russia -- and more specifically, leaders like Putin -- are reacting as one would expect given such a shift in the geopolitical climate. And what's more, Russia can use the defense of their base in the Crimea region as a perfectly legal pretense for the stationing of troops in anticipation of a full invasion. All that's required is for Yanukovich to regain power and formally request an intervention. |
