That's disturbing and sad. My God, a few of my family are hitting 60 (and over) and are as happy and content as they ever were.

The original site was deleted by Yahoo, even though he paid to have it up until 2018. This is a good read for anybody. Helps understand what many people go through on a daily basis..

He describes why he did it and his life.

I read some of that, and what stuck with me is that he said if he had children or parents he wouldn't have considered it. I can understand that.

Yeah me too, some people will say “Suicide is a permanent solution to a temporary problem” might strike someone who is not suicidal as a clever statement, and it might be a helpful thing to hear from the point of view of someone who already believes (or is likely to be convinced) that his or her problem is temporary. But the audience for this anti-suicide ditty is, of course, people who are suicidal. This guy decided it was time to check out and he did so with class .. for that I applaud him.

They should call it "shoeahshide". Takes away the sting.

Re: Retired Sportswriter Commits Suicide and Leave Website to Explain

His website broke my heart. When I listened to his voice singing JT I actually cried. Even though he said he wasn't lonely, after reading almost the entire website, I saw a man who had trouble connecting to others and was very lonely and as he said "didn't want to die alone". At first I thought it was arrogant and self serving, but after the entire reading, felt differently. He had no close friends or relatives to speak of, it appears. The family was not-I think he said-emotionally close. He was losing his memory and becoming extemely forgetful. He did not want to end up with dementia or worse dependent on others or draining the system. I don't know...it made me very sad.

not agreeing with the fact he thought life is over at the age of 60 and 90% of his creativity etc is over. Talked with enough people of that age saying they enjoy life way more than when they were young(er).
Hey, as long as u can still bathe yourself, stick around, right? 60 calling it quits. I'm aiming for 88

I think that is exactly what he was afraid of and was avoiding. He said he was very analytical and knew exactly what his mind was capable of. He said he was tired of having to go through the trash to find an envelope to get his address when he had lived there for nine years. He saw one of his close friends go through dementia and he knew he was headed there. He didn't remember his best friends names at times. He said he didn't want someone else wiping his ass and face. I think he was further gone mentally than anyone knew, as he was a bit of a loner.
