The wastage of food is something we often don’t realize, because we tend to think of it as ‘just this once’. In reality we’re all guilty of ordering something on the menu we know we can’t really finish, just out of the temptation to see what it tastes like.

Well, one restaurant has finally decided to put the matter to rest. A Saudi food joint has started charging their customers extra if they order more food than they can eat. Fahad Al Anezi, the owner of Marmar restaurant in the city of Dammam says the move is an attempt to stop the wastage of food and reduce extravagance. According to Al Anezi, he routinely witnesses clients who order large quantities of food in order to impress those around them. He also says that the idea of fining people for leftovers, instead of making him unpopular, has actually been endorsed by the Saudis. In fact, a few customers have said that they’ve learnt their lesson and will only order food that they can finish.
The decision was taken after news of a famine in Somalia, where people were literally starving to death. The money raised through the fines is being donated to help save the hungry nation. Al Anezi is now being hailed as the dining equivalent of Robin Hood.

I applaud the idea. I was always taught to finish my plate, but at the same time not to eat like a pig/American.

They are huge and disgusting! On the rare occasion that I eat out, I just order an appetizer and have them serve it when they bring everyone else's meal. It's cheaper and is plenty of food. Or yeah, I do what you do and have lunch the next day!

Restaurant would go out of business pretty fast if the food was that terrible. I find most people who complain about food being "bad" are just spoiled wankers.

Let's just assume that the food is great.
If that is true then this is a good idea imo.

I generally don't eat in too many places where the food is shit.
but if you did eat in a place and the food was shit and they tried to fine you just tell them to fuck off of course.

Im in Taiwan at the moment and we often go to family banquet halls. They bring out a tonne of food that never gets eaten. At the end of the meal it is quite normal for people to ask for plastic bags and take home everything. Soup not eaten ~ put it in 2 plastic bags and take home. half a carton of juice/coke/green tea. That comes home too.
A combination of not wasting food and being a bunch of cheap asses
