Goats imitating humans is a trend that appears to be growing after one managed to fool the police with his angry screams.

Having amused web users by popping up in a series of viral ‘goat edition’ pop videos earlier this year, the operatic animals appear to be enjoying their moment in the spotlight.

New York police responding to an emergency call about a ‘man screaming for help’ this week were surprised to discover an angry goat named Charcoal tied to a fence.

A worried resident in Putnam County made the call after hearing the screams of what she believed was a man trapped under a car shouting for ‘help’.

A dispatcher also heard the screams that witnesses say ‘sounded like a chimpanzee’ before sending a team to the scene.

‘We could hear what appeared to be a man screaming for help,’ explained police deputy Will Page. ‘It was actually coming from a goat that was tied to a fence.’

‘I spoke to the owner, who stated that he was going to take care of the goat. We then returned to the complainant and notified her that everything was ok.’

He explained the domestic animal had become distraught after being separated from his fellow herd.

‘He’s used to being with the other goats and we separated him,’ owner Carlos Mendez told NewsChannel5.com

‘I guess he didn’t want to be alone so he wanted to get back with the other goats.’
