EAST NORRITON, Pa. - March 7, 2014 (WPVI) -- The pregnant wife of a Pennsylvania State Trooper was killed Friday after the accidental discharge of a weapon inside their East Norriton home.


Authorities say it happened at 2:25 Friday afternoon in the 3000 block of Stoney Creek Road in East Norriton.

Exactly how it happened is unclear but a gun, not a service weapon, apparently being handled by the trooper accidentally discharged, striking his wife JoAnna Miller.

She was rushed to Mercy Suburban Hospital where she was pronounced dead a short time later.

"She was shot and killed," said First Assistant District Attorney Kevin Steele. "She was pregnant at the time. The baby did not survive."

"There are two children that were in the residence, and they are being taken care of by family members," said Steele.

The trooper is a seven year veteran of state police stationed at the Skippack barracks. His late wife used to be a civilian employee of state police.

"Good people, I mean they kept quiet, kept to themselves. I mean when we had a tree blow down in a storm, they came up with a chainsaw and helped us cut the tree up," said neighbor John Silks.

"I can't imagine. It is unbelievable, especially here. I am just in shock," said Erin Gawlick.

Detectives from Montgomery County are working with East Norriton police on the investigation and could be seen coming in and out of the house throughout the afternoon and evening.

"There is never any trouble in this neighborhood. They were cops. They seemed like nice people," said Mark Lewis.

johndoe, does the official account of this incident wash with what y'all personally know about this couple? Because you'd think a seven-year veteran state cop would have received sufficient firearms safety training to avoid something like this. That said, the accidental discharge story seems a little odd, don't it?

it does not sit right with me at all his kids where upstairs he could of killed his wife with the kids in the house as a perk so people did not think he was lying and i really hope someone discharges a firearm right in his fucking face. also when you clean i pistol you have to have the slide open so there is no way that gun fired on its on unless he had a bullet lodged in the barrel and he hit the primer

My thoughts too. Every time I hear accidental discharge, I think of a young kid playing around with a gun, not a trained professional.

now i talked to a police friend of mine and he was at the crime scene right after its happen and she had 3 bullet holes from a automatic shotgun and there was blood all over the house so how they say it happened on the news is not how it actually happen. also rumor has it she was cheating on him and he might of found out and then killed her and tryed to make it look like a accident
