A Queens woman who was butchered last month with her two young daughters had filed a police report in May saying she feared her husband would murder them, but her warning went unheeded — because it was in Spanish and never translated.

Deisy Garcia, an immigrant from Guatemala, filled out the state-mandated domestic-incident report in her native language after calling officers to her Jamaica apartment May 30 to say her husband, Miguel Mejia-Ramos, had assaulted her, police sources told The Post.

In the report, whose instructions are printed in English and Spanish, Garcia, 21, wrote that she was afraid Mejia-Ramos, 29, was going to kill her as well as their kids because she loved them so much, sources said.

Garcia called 911 on Mejia-Ramos again Nov. 28 and filed another report, although she didn’t repeat her worries about being killed.

Neither report was translated into English by either the patrol officers or the Domestic Violence Unit at the 103rd Precinct, where Garcia lived, until after Mejia-Ramos allegedly flew into his jealous rage and fatally stabbed her and their daughters — Daniela, 2, and Yoselin, 1 — on Jan. 18, sources said.

In response, police brass reminded all cops that NYPD policy mandates that reports made in foreign languages must be translated into English, sources said.

The NYPD is also looking into using computer software to automatically translate the reports, sources said.

Garcia’s mom, Luzmina Alvarado, lashed out at the NYPD when informed by The Post of the blunder.

“I’m in so much pain,” she said, adding. “I’m not sure how to go on.”

“I know she contacted them and told them he kicked her and abused her, but the police told her they needed to see proof of the abuse. They told her there was no evidence and left it at that,” Alvarado said.

“I told the cops, ‘Now that my daughter is dead, you’re hunting for this man like dogs, but if you did more earlier — if you had listened to my daughter — she might be alive today.’ ”

Garcia’s brother José Garcia, 19, added, “When someone comes to them with a problem but only speaks Spanish, find someone who speaks Spanish.

“They’re supposed to help us no matter who we are. My sister and her kids might still be alive if they had done their jobs.”

Authorities have said that Mejia-Ramos, who had spent the evening drinking beer at friend’s home, grabbed a knife from a butcher block and attacked his sleeping wife after checking her cellphone and spotting a Facebook photo of her and another man.

Mejia-Ramos allegedly told cops he hacked their daughters to death because he didn’t have car seats to take them on the run with him after killing of their mother.

Mejia-Ramos, an illegal immigrant, was nabbed two days later at a roadblock in Texas while en route to his native Mexico.

An NYPD representative said, “The allegations are under internal review.”

That's about as saddening as it gets...

I'm not tossing the illegal immigrant card in the air or anything..
But when it comes down to stuff like this?
NYPD should have been more thoughtful of the situation.
Doesn't matter what country they were from or if they had green cards or not..
Women and children do not deserve that.. Just sickening..
In NY of all places?
I am not implying New York is not a violent place.. I am implying the diversity of ethnicities and cultures. Spanish is a language worth acknowledging there seeing there is a large Latin presence.
If not to communicate and help people live their life? but to prevent tragedy like this and others.
And just make the work a bit easier to digest for the authorities themselves..

No way was that message just left 'untranslated' . Somebody's obviously trying to cover up criminal negligence with an innocent mistake.

Law enforcement didn't take her complaints seriously enough to do a follow up (probably brushed off as a domestic dispute unlikely to escalate to domestic violence, maybe the wife was just prone to exaggeration, perhaps she made the whole thing up to discredit her husband) There's absolutely no way to know for sure and that is why shelters for battered women were created. to keep women safe while their husband is under investigation.

Their failure to direct this woman to a safe place cost 3 lives. happened here was so tragically preventable, word of it could destroy a lot of careers.

Why do women stay with abusive arseholes? She feared for her life and the lives of her kids so she should have run. I also wonder who the other man was that she was photographed with.
When you move to a foreign country it is your obligation to learn the language of that land and integrate into that society, not doing so is just rude and it is ignorant of them to expect the people of their new home to fully cater to them.
I am not defending the police, the report should have been translated, but mistakes were made everywhere and the primary focus should now be on making that murderous prick rot in jail for the rest of his life.

For the record men stay in abusive relationships all the time, it just manifests differently-

Repetitive and excessive criticism

Humiliation and degradation, (which can include swearing, name calling and put-downs)

Restricting or controlling access to personal or social resources or friends

Women don't usually beat their men, they can be abusive enough without their fists.

Yep, police made a big mistake. But i really don't understand why she didn't run away with her kids.
Every mother i know would leave behind her whole life to protect her kids -even more, they would give their own life for their kids.

Sad story that could been avoided.
