New Video 2019 Russia Plane Crash in Moscow That Killed 41
Dramatic video released Wednesday shows a Russian airliner coming to rest on a taxiway after it is struck by lightning and bursts into flames during landing. A total of 41 people were killed on May 5, 2019, when Aeroflot Flight 1492, bound for Murmansk, was forced to return to Moscow's Sheremetyevo Airport after the reported lightning strike. As the aircraft made a rough landing, flames engulfed the jet's rear section and the aircraft skidded down a runway. Video released Wednesday by the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation shows the aircraft coming to a halt on a taxiway before passengers try to escape. How is getting struck by lightning the pilot's fault? I'm amazed so many were able to escape!

Getting hit by lightning couldn't be anticipated by anyone, however, what the pilot did or didn't do after the lightning strike was in his hands. |

Re: New Video 2019 Russia Plane Crash in Moscow That Killed 41
It was a series of mistakes made after the strike and loss of avionics that today's ATPL pilots rely on heavily. The aircraft basically goes in to limp home mode and is more difficult to fly safely. As a private pilot with multiple ratings I have nothing but empathy for the pilot in command of that flight. I can tell you first hand when things get a little stressful in the cockpit the difference between gut reaction and training and emergency checklists can be a very disastrous. So very sad and possibly avoidable. If I were at the controls during the lighting strike and the instrument panel blinked out with all those lives in my hands I am guessing I would load up my underwear with a giant turd and start sucking my thumb. |

There have been multiple successful emergency landings after lightning strikes on aircraft.

PLANES are made to survive lightning strikes, however how often are they hit? (Those who live in fear of being in a plane when it happens can rest assured, as the last plane crash due to lightning was in 1967 after it caused a fuel tank to explode.) https://www.express.co.uk/travel/art...tning-revealed |
