Solely no, primarily yes. If anyone else was dumb enough to attack a member they'd have received a NATO response, but NATO's primary purpose from it's inception was to limit Russian expansion into Western Europe. Are you going to make me post links? |

It was more of a rivalry between the USSR and the West. Of course it was a deterrent to Russian invasion of any of the member states..  |

The EU has just agreed to triple the funding allocated to rescue migrants trying to cross the Mediterranean. And people say I am stupid for voting UKIP on 7th of May. I don't pay my taxes to rescue people that have fuck all to do with me, keep rescuing these people just encourages more to come. |

France did for a while. In today's world, any member with nuclear weapons is guaranteed against invasion. If NATO continues to go in it's current trajectory, I'd bet you'll see more members rethinking their membership. What was once supposed to be a reactionary force has turned into something different. |
