A BOY of 10 bragged to his friends about killing a six-year-old then asked them not to tell on him, a court in Canada has heard.

Lee Allan Bonneau went missing from in front of a bingo hall on the Kahkewistahaw Native American reserve in Saskatchewan in 2013.

An inquest last week heard that while a frantic search was underway to find Bonneau the older boy, identified only as LT, told friends “a big guy” had hit a little boy three times with a stick, pushed him down an embankment and hit him with a rock.

He then changed his story, admitting it was him who had done it but asking his friends, “Don’t tell on me.”

Bonneau was later discovered in a wooded area on the reserve. He had head injuries that a medical expert said were similar to those seen in a high-speed car crash. Despite repeated attempts to resuscitate him he later died.

Bonneau was in foster care at the time of the killing and it was his foster mum, Mary Ramstead, who raised the alarm.

The Saskatoon Star-Phoenix reported that there were concerns about domestic violence in Bonneau’s home, and the boy was taken into care after his mother, Stacey Merk, told a social worker she was suicidal.

When he was first interviewed by police LT repeated the accusation that another man had killed the six-year-old, even providing police with a name. But an investigation soon ruled out the adult suspect and forensic evidence gathered by police — including a bite mark on the victim’s body — pointed to LT as the most likely culprit.

The boy, who had serious behavioural issues and had talked of hearing voices, was also seen walking with Bonneau outside the bingo hall.

LT told friends he was afraid of going to jail, the inquest heard. But under Canadian law under-12s cannot be charged with criminal offences.

In Australia the age of criminal responsibility is set at ten. This is the same as in England where two ten-year-olds were put on trial in 1993 for the killing of toddler James Bulger.

In other European countries the age is set much higher: 15 in Denmark and Sweden; 18 in Luxembourg. In some US states, however, it is as low as six.

No wonder he bragged: he got his first confirmed kill at age 10, and it looks like he's not even going to get charged.

And as far as this kid hearing voices, I think it's bullshit. With a kid that young, it's not schizophrenia; it's his imagination. Schizophrenia usually manifests much later in life.

At that age, kids that act out violently like that are most likely victims of abuse themselves. They take out their rage and feelings of helplessness and inferiority (emotions to complex for a 10 year old to either comprehend nor adequately control without a caring and loving mentor of some sort) by hurting things smaller and weaker than they are.

Unless they're full blown sociopath's, in which case "normal " just doesn't apply.
