Re: More Brazen Illegal Activity from Israel
I had assumed as much, but thought it was worth mentioning anyways because I don't think people know the difference. Israel is one of those weird topics that most people, on both sides, are deeply misinformed. Or not even misinformed, just retarded. I think its fucked up what Israel is doing, but I always find myself defending them because of retarded people who say retarded things.

Re: More Brazen Illegal Activity from Israel
I can assure you I am not one of those people. What I do find, regularly, though is that Israel to many people is a taboo subject we're not allowed to discuss. Like happened earlier in this thread, people immediately look to throw out the anti semitism line. It's boring and, in my view, a cynical way to avoid awkward questions. While we're on the subject of 'ignorance', however, did you know Israel supplied Iran with weapons during their war with Saddam Hussein's Iraq? I'm also pretty sure Iran would not be attempting to procure a nuclear weapon if Israel didn't have one. And yet we're told it's Iran we need to be scared of. As well as stone throwing peasants in the Occupied Territories. Why not try? |

Re: More Brazen Illegal Activity from Israel
I did know that. Israel has an extensive history of doing business with regimes that the rest of the world condemns. Just like the US, or the UK, or France...The only difference being that Israel doesn't even try and hide their bullshit most of the time. Also, I think what really sets them apart is the manner in which they've decided to handle the Palestinian situation. I think its their unapologetic utilitarian methods of dealing with things that people find so repulsive. And rightfully so, as utilitarianism often curtails the virtues that Western society was founded on. Or really any society. That being said, I don't think all of these things can serve as a reflection of Israel. All of the above, I think, has evolved out of conflict. If the fighting were to end, I think that all of those terrible elements that war can bring out in any society would vanish, and that they could return to those sort of 'liberal socialist' roots. |

Re: More Brazen Illegal Activity from Israel
The fighting won't stop as long as they hold Gaza under siege. A two state solution should have been reached years ago, and would have been were it not for US veto power. You skirted the nuclear issue. They bombed Syria to stop them acquiring one and will probably do the same to Iran should they get much closer to the requisite level of uranium enrichment. Of course, they could offer to dismantle their own weapon - but they won't.

Re: More Brazen Illegal Activity from Israel
I didn't mean to. But no, I don't know how much I agree with the last sentence. I think Israel's possession of nuclear weapons gives Iran a welcomed "caucus belli" for developing their own. I mean, I understand what you are saying, but I don't think Iran would stop developing nuclear weapons even if Israel was wiped off the face of the planet tomorrow. They have, and other counties like them have, developed their (modern) national identities around opposing the west. And there will never be a short supply of western nations.
