Re: Man Wants to Live Like Bear Grylls for a Year, Dies in Less Than a Month

When I was a kid in Nebraska I would last a few hours out in the snowdrifts playing around. But I had down jacket and thick winter boots and could always go inside when I got too cold. Working for eight or ten hours in the cold is another matter. I have come close to frostbite a few times and just gave up and went in to warm up. Thing is you can't survive without making preperations for food and winter shelter. Even a rude hut would save you if you have a source of fire and a way to make it. Also you need stored food for the winter. Otherwise even a fire won't keep you alive. You can't hunt in the cold with out food to burn for heat in your body. A hungry body in the winter with no shelter and no fire is a dead body. It doesn't even need to be freezing to kill you if you get wet and can't dry off.

Well said.

Even Neandertals and Cro-Magnons knew this. Just logic. Why this guy, who grew up with snow and supposedly took survival classes didn't take this into account we'll never know.

He thought he was invincible, he was delusional to say the least...There is a reason homeless shelters are made...If it was easy to survive outside there would be people camping with no need for rent...

Re: Man Wants to Live Like Bear Grylls for a Year, Dies in Less Than a Month

Bear Grylls is one of my kids favorite tv people.
I would not want to replicate many of his journeys, especially for a year.
