Re: Man Tattoos Dog

Honestly I have no issue with this as long as the reason is for identification. We brand and dock agricultural animals for identification and health hazards, which is ironic because if the brands aren't taken care of properly, they will be infected whereas a tattoo has a low infection rate compared and heals much faster. I think doing it for cosmetic reasons is wrong though.
i think it's different with pets vs agricultural animals if for no other reason then pets have names, tags and (if the owner chooses) RFID chips put in them for ID purposes without causing the animal pain. tattooing is painful, im surprised the dog stayed still long enough, honestly.

Re: Man Tattoos Dog

i have a hard time believing any animal is born with a body part that will injure it unless it is removed right away.

i've known people with boxers with long tails and they never got hurt by overzealously wagging their tails... and they frequently got that excited.
I've seen a doberman break its tail and the yelping is beyond anything I've ever heard, if I had a doberman I would only dock the tail and not crop the ears because long crops are extremely uncomfortable for dogs and it takes months to get the right stance on the ears, plus I don't "show" my dogs so that is another reason I wouldn't crop ears.

I guess it all comes to personal preference on the ears.

Re: Man Tattoos Dog

Most people will chop off the tail to avoid having fragile things by happy tails. If you cant deal with the animals nature than dont have the animal... tattoos kinda weird and pointless but harmless imo

I had a pit that wagged her tail so much sometimes she had a bloody spot. The vet said the only remedy was to remove her tail. I just bandaged her up but from then on I was a tail docker. Pits that fight have to have their ears docked or get shredded. I never fought my babies.

i personally like to see animals untouched... and i've been around a lot of dogs with undocked tails and never heard of them getting hurt (though it apparently happens)

it's also an illegal practice in a few countries....Australia, England (except for a few working dog breeds), Greece, Italy, Turkey, Switzerland, Sweden... seems like a pointless practice to me and i've never had it done to my dogs... my german shorthair was a working gun dog and didnt have it's tail docked... was full of energy and never had an issue, personally
