Man Dies After Getting Head Wedged in Electric Chair at Midlands Cinema
Customer was trying to retrieve dropped mobile phone. A man has died after a freak accident at a popular Midlands' cinema. The customer's head got wedged in an electric chair following a film at Vue Cinema in Star City, Birmingham. [UK] The man dropped his phone in between the Gold Class seats at the end of the movie, but when he bent down to retrieve it, the electric seat’s footrest is said to have clamped down on his head. He was taken to hospital after the incident. Vue Cinema confirmed today he had died, reports Birmingham Live. A Vue spokesman said: "Following an incident which took place on Friday 9 March at our Birmingham cinema, we can confirm that a customer was taken to hospital that evening. "We are saddened to learn that he passed away on Friday 16 March. "A full investigation into the nature of the incident is ongoing. Our thoughts and condolences are with the family who have our full support and assistance." Mark Croxford, Head of Environmental Health at Birmingham City Council said: "The City Council’s Environmental Health team were notified of this incident and a Health and Safety investigation has begun. "We are unable to comment further at this stage, as the investigation is ongoing." The victim was said to be stuck as his frantic partner and staff battled to release him in the incident. The chair’s foot-rest was eventually broken free and he was released. An ambulance that had been called took the victim to Heartlands Hospital. A source had said: “The Gold Class seats are electric reclining seats. He bent down to look for his phone. At this point the leg-rest was in an upright position. “But as he stuck his head underneath to have a look, the footrest clamped down onto his head. “He was stuck. His partner and staff tried to free him but couldn’t. “The chair leg-rest was eventually broken free and he managed to get out. “The ambulance had already been called and was at the scene at this time, and took him to hospital.” The cinema complex at Star City has 25 screens including three Gold Class rooms where the emphasis is on comfort and luxury. The company’s website says: “The Gold Class ticket price includes complimentary popcorn during your film and is strictly for over 18’s, offering luxury seating with a fully licensed bar and an enhanced viewing experience. “Gold Class customers are welcome to visit the Gold Class bar to enjoy a drink before and during the screening.” https://www.leicestermercury.co.uk/n...g-head-1362407  ·  ·  · |

Surprising way to die, I like to think I could handle a footrest of a chair but I've never had one clamp down on my head before. Shitty.
