'Malicious Castration' Among Charges in Abuse Case

You can't make this stuff up people, all news, all the time... http://www.wcnc.com/news/crime/Malic...262931151.html Updated Friday, Jun 13 at 8:17 PM CASAR, N.C. -- A mentally handicapped man is recovering inside a Charlotte hospital Friday after Cleveland County Deputies along with Department of Social Service investigators rescued him from a "living hell." Charles Troy Newton, 50, of Casar, North Carolina is charged with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill, kidnapping, assault by strangulation, abuse of disabled/elderly and malicious castration. Captain Joel Shores with the Cleveland County Sheriff's office is leading the investigation "If we hadn't located this gentleman when we did, we would be investigating a homicide right now." Shores then added it was the worst case of abuse that he's seen in his 23-year career. "No one should suffer what this gentleman suffered and really it was a living hell for this gentleman." It was a call to DSS that started an investigation and led to Newton's arrest. Deputies made their way inside the home and found the handicapped cousin with severe injuries over most of his body. Newton was placed under arrest right away. Neighbors along Dirty Ankle Road are disgusted. Carolyn Pruitt lives across the road from where the alleged abuses took place. "I think that's horrible." Pruitt said. Bennie Hill lives two doors down. "If he's guilty, I hope he gets everything he deserves." Hill then adds, "It shocked me." At a first appearance in at the Cleveland County Courthouse Newton was given a court-appointed attorney and remains in the jail under a $100,000 secured bond. |
