SALEM, N.H. – Salem police say two officers were injured June 16 after being attacked by a Vermont family at Canobie Lake Park.

The altercation occurred when the family was asked by park security to put the knives they were carrying on their belts into their vehicle because they could not bring them into the park, per the amusement park's policy.

Police said several members of the family became "extremely belligerent" and two officers working the detail responded to the front gate at around 1:30 p.m. Police said one of the family members started yelling profanities in front of hundreds of guests, including children.

One of the members, after several warnings, was in the process of being arrested when he resisted, became combative and several family members attacked both officers, "including jumping on the backs of the officers, punching and kicking them, and grabbing for their weapons," police said.

Officers called for backup to report the melee. Numerous officers responded and arrested five family members on numerous charges. As officers arrived, the mother of the family faked a seizure, according to police.

Both officers sustained injuries. One suffered bumps, bruises, cuts and scrapes, while the second had a serious shoulder injury, police said.

Arrested and charged were:
Joshua Perry, 23, of Sutton, Vt.: riot (felony), resisting arrest with serious injury, criminal trespass, disorderly conduct.
Brian Perry, 18, of Lyndonville, Vt.: riot (felony), simple assault on a police officer, resisting arrest.
E. Allan Perry, 45, of Lyndon, Vt.: riot (felony), disorderly conduct, resisting arrest, 2nd degree assault, criminal trespass.
Damian Perry, 18, of Lyndonville, Vt.: disorderly conduct, criminal trespass.
Ashley Perry, 20, of Sutton, Vt.: Disorderly Conduct, criminal trespass.
