Charged with injury to a child, 29-year-old Talysa Herron, is free on bond following her arrest Friday, three weeks after Bexar County Sheriff’s deputies said she slapped a neighbor’s 10-year-old daughter in the face.

“I still don’t know what possessed her to do that,” said Cyndi Lafontaine.

Lafontaine said her daughter, Amanda Russell, (pictured below), had refused to give her ice cream sandwich to Herron’s four-year-old daughter.

“She ran up and tried to bite me. I grabbed her hand and slapped it, just lightly tapped it,” Amanda said.

Amanda said after that, Herron’s little girl ran to her mother’s house.

Minutes later, Herron allegedly confronted Amanda.

“Before she hit me, she said, ‘If I can my children, I can hit you, too,’” Amanda said.

She said Herron’s hand was open as she allegedly slapped her left cheek, near her eye, knocking her to the ground.

Lafontaine said after that, her daughter ran to their front door, screaming about what had just occurred.

Amanda’s mom said Herron then confronted her as well.

“As soon as I turned around, I saw a fist coming toward my face,” Lafontaine said.

Lafontaine said Herron then repeatedly struck her.

In reaction to her arrest Friday, David Russell, Amanda’s dad, said he was cursed and threatened by Herron and her boyfriend. Using his cell phone, Russell recorded the shouting match from his front yard, as the couple stood a short distance away by a stop sign.

“Blah, blah, blah,” Russell can be heard saying. “I got you on video right here.”

Asked for her side of the story, Herron would not come to the front door, but did say she would not respond to false accusations.

According to public records, Herron was charged with resisting arrest and interfering with a public servant in February, as well as earlier prior arrests including misdemeanor drug charges and criminal mischief.

What a carry on.

Back when I was a kid, we were being naughty knocking on doors and winding up adults. One man gave one of the boys a kick up the arse and told him to clear off. The boy behaved himself after that and stopped messing about.

Me and my other pals continued though until our parents saw us - and the punishment was worse

I'd certainly not hit someone else's child but I wonder if that's easier said than done dependant on situations? If a kid was laying into mine and wasn't giving up, I'd certainly use force and pull them off (not hit).

As for my own, I wouldn't choose to/want to but I can't predict what would unfold in a given situation. I pushed my parents way too far at times and - deservedly - got a whack. And I knew I did wrong and deserved it. I and my pals were not hit in a vindictive or violent manner, just in a controlled firm "stoppit!!" sort of way.

Me and all my mates got hit at some point but we hold no resentment whatsoever and are not scarred or damaged. It's quite the joke now. We were little sods at times

You have to find out why the child was hit before saying it was right or wrong really.
