Josh Powell, a person of interest in the Dec. 6, 2009 disappearance of his wife Susan, killed himself and the couple's two young sons on Sunday in a planned, intentional explosion, police confirm Sunday.

According to the The Seattle Times, a case worker delivered the boys to Powell's house Sunday near Tacoma, Wash., when Powell pushed the worker out of the house. Moments later, there was an explosion. Officials have recovered three bodies from the house that they believe are Josh Powell and his sons Charlie, 7, and Braden, 5.

The case worker "was forced out, and an explosion happened shortly thereafter," Ed Troyer, spokesman for the Pierce County Sheriff's Office, told the newspaper.

The Associated Press reports that Powell's lawyer in his custody case, Jeffrey Bassett, received a three-word email from his client minutes before the explosion. It said, "I'm sorry, goodbye."

Only days earlier, a family court judge told Powell that he was not likely to get custody of the boys anytime soon, and that he needed to undergo a psychological review. The boys were in the custody of their grandparents, Chuck and Judy Cox.

Powell had denied any role in his wife's disappearance, and had told police that she went missing while he took the boys on an overnight camping trip in a snowstorm. He recently told the family court judge that Chuck and Judy were not taking good care of the boys and were turning their two sons against him.

Powell lost custody on Sept. 22 after his father, Steve Powell, was arrested and charged with possessing child pornography.

I don't know how to respond to this to be honest, why would he even have contact with his son's while he was a person of interest in such a big crime? those 2 kids could of been someone in life, but their selfish fucking father took that away from them. Pathetic.

I just read about this on cnn. How horrible. I remember him saying that the night his wife went missing he took his boys camping in a snow storm.

The only thing that could possibly come out of this and be considered "good" is if he left a confession somewhere that will lead to the recovery of his missing wife.

he then goes on to criticise how the grandparents are turning his kids against him.

If you've ever had experience with those who have the need to mind fuck, manipulate and take advantage of people, this guy is a big red flag flying as far as the eye can see.

How are profiles not given about these people? it is 2012 FFS and so many people get killed or seriously injured because the little red dots making the red flag were not linked up.

Who the hell takes kids out camping in a snowstorm? Hint: People with a mental disposition.

While it was obviously a good idea to get those kids away from him, why would the fact that their paternal grandfather had child porn be reason to take them away from their father?

Selfish, hateful, domineering maggot. How could he look his own boys in their eyes, then murder them. I feel so sorry for Susan's parents. They lost their daughter and now their grandsons. You just know that selfish fucker won't have left any indication as to where Susan's body is located. That would imply he possessed even a modicum of human decency and remorse.

I assume he lived with his father. That would make the child porn be in the same house as the children sparking their removal.

He should have been on supervised visitation with the kids at a safe spot or DHHR where he would not have a chance to cause harm or mentally fuck with those kids.
