Re: Indonesia Goes Ahead with Executions.
The point being...murderers in that country get away with murder or serve very little time by comparison. Even under-age sex or marriage is a given or very much a grey area in relation to the Koran. It doesn't quite make sense, if you were to ask me. This is the reason beyond the drugs. |

Re: Indonesia Goes Ahead with Executions.
People say it doesn't work as a deterrent because it in and of itself doesn't. Countries with the death penalty in place typically don't have lower crime rates (violent or otherwise). Nations that don't use DP don't usually have higher crime rates. Usually it's either a wash or the nations with more lax punishments have slightly (or sometimes even greatly) lower crime rates. I mean, if DP or even a life sentence were deterrents, we should be able to look at say, Norway and USA... and USA should be basically crime free, while Norway where you get 21 years max no matter what you did... should be a criminal's paradise. However when you actually look, pretty much across the board when adjusted for population, the USA exceeds the crime rates (of almost all kinds) in Norway by massive amounts. |

The "Ring Leaders" were kids really at the time...in their early 20's! Having served already 10 years in prison does not warrant a death sentence after rehabilitation! Case closed!

Re: Indonesia Goes Ahead with Executions.
Definitely. Death sentence basically amounts to (since it's proven thoroughly to NOT be a deterrent) an excuse for a government to kill people. Especially when it comes to something like this. Even if one is pro-death penalty, it should be reserved only for the absolute worst of the worst. So unless they've run out of murderers and rapists, pedophiles, etc., I fail to see how this was excusable in anyone's mind.

Re: Indonesia Goes Ahead with Executions.
You would have a point if they had decided to deal smack in Australia but they didn't did they, I have no sympathy for people who knowingly traffic drugs in a country that is fond off offing people. They got shot...so what. At what age do you stop being a kid?

The roaring 20's are very much trial and error. A lot of mistakes are done before the age of 30.

Yep, and quite a few of those stupid decisions result in maiming or death. Deciding to be a risk taker does not exclude you from consequence. |

Re: Indonesia Goes Ahead with Executions.
Yeah yeah...but remember that Indonesia signed the International Covenant of Civil & Political Rights treaty in 2006. Only the most serious crimes warrant the death penalty. Surely drug trafficking doesn't enter the realm of cold-blooded murder?
