Re: Huge Huntsman Spider Found in Backpack of Woman
As a rule the huntsmans fangs are too small to penetrate the skin of a human. That said when I found a huge one (they live in the UK) and picked it up out of the box I took it to the biology section of the local collage the fucker bit me on the side of my thumb and at least one fang got some goodness into the soft flesh next to my thumb nail...that shit hurt like hell for a good two-three weeks the joints in the thumb and to some degree the finger next to it where more painful than I know how to describe. It didn't do the spider any harm though, damn thing was still alive 2-3 years later when I went back to the collage building to donate a couple of motorbikes to the newly opened motor engineering dept. They had bred from it once with about 40 (I think) spiderlings surviving the canibalistic siblings and she had another eggsack when I visited. It didnt carry the egg sack all the time it would deposit it on heavily webbed areas and move it around if it felt threatened. It was the largest one anyone in the department had ever seen, yet her young just seemed to grow to the standard UK size of a cm or two (Body not inc legs) wheras Mum was a good 4cm long (the body not the legs, she was fucking huge from leg tip to leg tip...far too big to have been a native of this country they reckoned she may have come over in fruit (banana's probably) and someone on seeing it had thrown them out the door!
