Im with gatagato on this one. Death penalty for armed robbery + assault is at least as much justice as a one year term for degree 1 murder. That 10 years and ~70 lashes seems far more better.

In Iran is rare, afaik in 2010 it happened two times that some thieves lost their hands for stealing; ( http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2010...f-hand-cut-off) in general, as punishment for theft, qur'an 5:38 asks Muslims to "cut off his or her hands". However, this was an armed assault, and despite i think that hanging is punishment too severe, they KNEW what they were risking.
