[The Chabad House in Kathmandu, Nepal, which hosts thousands of Israeli backpackers every year, said on Sunday it was being forced to relocate abruptly because of growing pressure from its landlord, accusing the landlord of “antisemitism.”

However, people familiar with the issue strongly rejected the charge, telling The Times of Israel that the decision was purely a financial matter. The couple that runs the Chabad, Rabbi Chezky and Chani Lifshitz, had failed to pay rent for as much as several years and owed more than $100,000 in back payments, multiple sources said.]

“It is shameful that the family took a financial dispute and blamed it on antisemitism,” said Rina Lamsal, an Israeli expat who has run a travel agency in Nepal for 13 years. “The family that owns the property includes wonderful Jews and Zionists, and doesn’t deserve this. Since they opened the Chabad of Nepal some 25 years ago, the couple and their six kids have hosted countless travelers for Jewish holidays, including more than 2,000 people at what has been called the largest Passover Seder in the world. Their experiences have served as inspiration for the Israeli show “Kathmandu,” which can be seen on Netflix in Israel.

In September, when Nepal was engulfed by deadly protests, the Chabad house provided shelter to hundreds of visiting Israelis and Jews.

Chabad outposts around the world — often a country’s most visible Jewish target — have repeatedly been subjected to antisemitic attacks, including last month in Sydney, Australia, when 15 people were gunned down at a Chabad Hanukkah celebration.

An unknown assailant threw a baseball sized rock through the window of a slow-moving local Jewish school bus "with visibly Jewish kids inside," seriously fracturing the skull of an 8 year old girl. The school bus was returning from a field trip.

The injured girl is now undergoing surgery at Hackensack University Medical Center.

TEANECK, New Jersey (WABC) -- Police have arrested a man after they say he threw a rock into a school bus and left a third-grade girl with a fractured skull in New Jersey.

The 8-year-old girl was in the hospital on Friday after someone on the street threw a rock the size of a baseball into the bus.

The bus was transporting students from a local Jewish day school Wednesday in the northbound lanes of the New Jersey Turnpike in Teaneck Township just after 2 p.m.

The bus was heading back to Yeshivat Noam from a field trip to the Liberty Science Center in Jersey City when it happened.

Police say Hernando Garciamorales, 40, from Palisades Park threw a rock at the vehicle just before the Teaneck Road exit.

He has been charged with aggravated assault, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, endangering the welfare of a child, criminal mischief, resisting arrest by flight, and hindering.

Police said he was arrested at a self-made campsite within Old Croaker County Park in Bergen County.

During the investigation, police were able to link Garciamorales to multiple rock-throwing incidents in Bogota Borough, Bergen County.

The rock shattered the glass and struck the 8-year-old girl in the head.

Authorities say no one else on the bus was injured. The Jewish Federation put out a statement that said in part it is aware of the incident and closely monitoring the situation.

Officials say there were no markings on the bus identifying it as a Jewish school bus, so the exact motive is still under investigation.

The young girl had surgery and is expected to be OK.
