These dogs feature too much in attacks. They ought to stop breeding them. And the dumb owners who goad them so they get aggressive.

It's laughable when you see folk on estates who can't get guns so they get a pit bull.

Yes, if said person hasn't been involved with training like you have. If the dog doesn't obey that person like they do you, they should not be trusted alone with it.

Also, if the person doesn't know about dog behavior and your dog's personal quirks, they shouldn't be alone with it.

You are aware of the fact that not all dogs have to be trained to be safe, right? Ever met a friendly stray? Ever heard of some breeds being good with kids?

My childhood pet was a 120-pound Germand shepherd. He loved being around me and the rest of my friends from the neighborhood. He grew up around us. Even fully grown, hebused to wind up in the middle of pillowfights and all.sorts of other hands-on childhood antics. He didn't have to be trained to not chew our faces off because he wasn't a member of a reflexively aggressive breed. Most breeds learn a natural deference to human beings and establish an equilibrium based on that deference. Unless cornered, they choose flight over fight. They do not compulsively seek to establish their dominance.

Pit bulls, however, do not behave that way. They are by and large a reflexively aggressive breed. It has nothing to do with quirks or even training; it has everything to do with countless generations' worth of selective breeding that doesn't just disappear with a certain type of owner.

Pit bulls are not more naturally aggressive towards people than German Shepherds. Most of the breed is human friendly.

Most will be friendly, without training.


I'm saying that anyone who isn't 100% familiar with a dog(of any breed) needs to be aware that there is potential danger.

A friendly stray is friendly in that moment. You don't know it well enough to put your full trust in it.

I can't believe how people will find a dog on the street and it's sleeping in their kid's bed that night.
That is absolutely a parent fail.

Bull baiting is why pits are naturally aggressive. This why many people get them.

That's just dumb from a health point of view. I've taken in two or three stray cats in my time, but they were always quarantined in the bathroom until the vet gave them a clean bill.

But what I was getting at is that most pits actively gun for the alpha spot, and humans aren't exempt from that logic. Even good owners and trainers have told me that training a pit involves a dimension of "breaking" the dog that is unnecessary with other breeds. A dog that is compelled to dominate must itself be dominated, or essentially handled and addressed in a "language" that it understands.

I've owned 4 and personally known many more. They don't need to be broken, just trained from the beginning - like all dogs.

Lots of people are lax on training until the dog is older and a bratty teen. In bigger dogs, the brattyness is more evident. Medium to large, untrained teens do act bullyish and need to be "broken".

But I see this with all untrained breeds of dogs. It's scary when it's a breed like a rottie, German shepherd or pit bull.

She's not very scary looking, but, don't let her looks fool ya. She's a vicious killer.

Start public mauling of any and all owners (including their wives) whose animals maul others.

Make sure the punitive mauling EXCEEDS the damage done to the original victim.

The problem will cease immediately.

Good point, it'd eventually kick off with another breed possibly.

It's natural to blame the breed and the more irresponsible owners as they are the ones most dominant in dog mauling.
