A car traveling at high speed plowed into a Christmas parade in suburban Milwaukee, Wisconsin, leaving at least 30 people injured, among them several elderly women who were part of a 'Dancing Grannies' float, according to reports.

Terrifying video posted to social media shows a speeding red SUV collide into a group of people marching in the middle of the street during the annual holiday parade in Waukesha, some 20 miles west of downtown Milwaukee.

Another video shows the speeding SUV narrowly miss a young girl who was dancing in the street as the out-of-control vehicle drove by just feet away. There were also unconfirmed reports of shots fired.


The chief of police said that the red SUV has been recovered, though there was no word as to whether a suspect was in custody as of 8pm Eastern time on Sunday.

'We have a person of interest that we are looking into at this time,' Police Chief Dan Thompson told reporters.


Video circulating on social media shows what appears to be a red SUV driving at unusually high speed through the downtown Waukesha area.

The vehicle sped through the Christmas parade even as people participating in the procession waved flags. Dozens of people were injured near the intersection of Main and Barstow streets in downtown Waukesha, according to reports.

Moments after the SUV drives by, screams can be heard in the background. A law enforcement official is then seen giving chase after the SUV.

Angelito Tenorio, a West Allis alderman who is running for Wisconsin state treasurer, told the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel that he was watching the parade with his family when they saw the SUV come speeding into the area.

'Then we heard a loud bang, and just deafening cries and screams from people who are struck by the vehicle,' Tenorio said.

'And then, and then we saw people running away or stopping crying, and there, there are people on the ground who looked like they’d been hit by the vehicle.'

Law enforcement officials are urging locals to avoid the downtown Waukesha area as the investigation is ongoing. Police have also set up a family reunification location at Metro Transit Center near Bank Street.

Update: A suspect has been identified and is in custody for the 'mass casualty incident' in Waukesha, Wisconsin when a red Ford Escape plowed into a holiday parade. So far, five have been confirmed dead, more than 40 injured.

According to court documents, 39-year-old Darrell Edward Brooks Jr. has been arrested as a suspect in the incident.

Brooks is a career criminal with multiple priors and was released from jail two days prior to the incident after posting a $1,000 bail for three misdemeanors and two felonies. He has a history of resisting arrest, obstruction, battery, statutory sexual seduction, strangulation and suffocation, property destruction, illegal firearm possession, bail jumping, domestic violence, drug related charges and is a registered sex offender.

The driver of the red SUV plowed through a police line at high speed and into a parade of Christmas marchers on Sunday, impacting more than 20 adults and children in a graphic scene captured on the city’s livestream and cellphones of bystanders.

In a rap video on his Youtube page, Brooks is seen dancing in front of a red Ford Escape, the same type of vehicle used in Sunday's fatal incident.

11 adults and 12 children were transported to six area hospitals.

I've listened to a police radio of the incident. The driver is a Black male. It wasn't an accident and was a deliberate act. He drove through the barriers and discharged a weapon out of his window.

A lot of eyewitnesses are saying the car was driven towards the "dancing grannies." In the footage I've just watched, they looked like young White women and girls to me.

I've read lots of tweets by people who were at the parade. They're saying six dead so far, including children.

I don't have the full details, but it does look like a revenge attack over the Rittenhouse acquittal, imo. It seems White females were the target going by the video footage I've watched.

Wasn't the juror who gave the jury's verdict a White woman?

I never said they were...but they do hate White people and, as can be viewed in the videos, most of the crowd were White. I'm not sure why you thought it being a Christmas parade was relevant?

The parade was being held in Wisconsin. Not long after the Rittenhouse trial. After BLM and AntiFa threatened retaliation in response to the acquittal of Rittenhouse.

The driver deliberately drives into the parade then speeds through the barrier. You can hear a weapon is fired too.
