Re: Five Dead, Hundreds Trapped After Fire Breaks Out on Ferry Near Greek Island
I checked before I posted, from sea surface temps it was 16c. Lakes here range in July from 12-20c depending on how cold the winter was and what part of the lake.

It's correct: it's 16/ 16,2 c righ now: this caused the so called sea smoke effect, which reduced the visibility to less than 50 meters according to the rescuers, which further complicated the SAR operations.

Re: Five Dead, Hundreds Trapped After Fire Breaks Out on Ferry Near Greek Island
Not sure if you have even fallen through a sheet of ice into water below 0 but that's cold. The guy who jumped might have never had an experience with colder water and like you said could have gone into shock, might have been a terrible swimmer, there are a bunch of reasons but I find it hard to believe he would have succumb to hypothermia in an hour in that temperature of water. Not saying its tropical weather by a long shot here but 16c is more than survivable temps for a decent period. The shock response of the human body is a big killer, you cant really control breathing when entering cold water so you need to know how to survive. We take courses here on cold water survival especially if you are a boater or do lots of ice fishing. |

Don't believe the holiday brochures that show miles of sandy beaches either tennis ball sized rocks except for Monte Carlo they paid for the stones or rocks to be removed and sand bedded in.. |
