Re: Father of Baby Born With Down Syndrome Keeps Him; Wife Divorces Him
*Mother Speaks Out: Says Husband Fled to New Zealand With Baby Leo* February 7, 2015 A mother, accused of leaving her husband because their child was born with Down syndrome, is speaking out. Doctors told the parents they could keep him or give him to foster care. His dad, Samuel Forrest, claims his wife divorced him because he wanted to keep their son. Now, the child's mother, Ruzan Badalyan, is refuting those claims. She said she never gave her husband an ultimatum. She says, she simply wanted to move to a different country to raise the boy where he might have a better future. Badalyan says her husband abandoned her during the hardest decision of her life and took their son to New Zealand. Forrest told reporters he is open to a possible reunion with his wife. |

Re: Father of Baby Born With Down Syndrome Keeps Him; Wife Divorces Him
And I have a hysterectomy scheduled for March 3. Maybe that's why I'm sensitive to stories like this. She did do the right thing in the end, but to make her husband choose between her and the child they had created together is fucked the hell up.

Re: Father of Baby Born With Down Syndrome Keeps Him; Wife Divorces Him
The first thing that hit me when I heard about this is that the only reason this is even in the news is because it's the mother abandoning her child, not the father. Fathers leave their wives/girlfriends every fucking day because they don't want to deal with their newborn child having special needs. We don't hear about it in the news because we are used to the traditional idea of nurturing mother/callous father. I'm not saying the father isn't doing "the right thing" or whatever, I'm just saying he's doing what a ton of mothers do every day and his gender is the only reason why he's being praised for it. Same goes for the mother; she does what a ton of fathers do every day and her gender is the only reason why she's being bashed on for it. |

Re: Father of Baby Born With Down Syndrome Keeps Him; Wife Divorces Him
Should be mandatory imo to prevent tragedies like in this case. Guess not all couples discuss on forehand what to do when the baby gets born with down or physical handicapped. Wonder if the mother is going to suffer sleepless nights over her radical decission as usual to abandon a baby is more of a guy's thing as men don't carry a baby inside them for 9 months. |
