DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. -- At least 11 NASCAR fans were injured Saturday when large chunks of debris, including a tire, sailed into the grandstands when a car flew into the fence on a frightening last-lap accident in the second-tier Nationwide Series race at Daytona International Speedway.

The crash began as the field closed in on the finish line and sent rookie Kyle Larson's car sailing into the fence that separates the track from the seats.

Apparently, 28 fans were injured - per NASCAR. Of those, at least 2 are life-threatening and one of those is a child. Other children involved as well though extent not covered.

NASCAR is yanking fan video from the stands faster than it can go up. One in particular created so much buzz, the poster (though YT yanked it because of NASCAR) is getting media requests out the wazoo.

Trying to find anyone who might still have this video up. Some call it gruesome, others shocking so I have no idea whatsoever what is in it.

Top video is good, the second is now private. ETA: Though I don't honestly see why NASCAR would be going crazy over having these pulled so fast. I see nothing gruesome and no injuries unless I'm not looking in the right places...

Lawsuits........... If someone dies from something like this, you're looking at a multimillion dollar settlement.

But what does pulling the video do? Evidence I suppose? Doesn't the ticket contract - the same one across all sports pretty much - absolve them of lawsuits in these cases?

I know in the injuries sustained in 2009 (which incidentally changed and reinforced those very catch fences - this accident was a fluke of location, impact point, etc.), NASCAR and the teams willingly paid for all the fans medical expenses.

NASCAR's statement since it's made a stirring is:
The fan video of the wreck on the final lap of today's NASCAR Nationwide Series race was blocked on YouTube out of respect for those injured in today's accident. Information on the status of those fans was unclear and the decision was made to err on the side of caution with this very serious incident.

I'm no lawyer but if this is their reasoning but they made a DCMA complaint, would that have been more possible for a lawsuit by filing a false DCMA and maybe I guess someone throws out their reputation is now one of a thief or something? Does fan grandstand footage count under the DCMA/copyright just for the footage being filmed there?

I guess the last thought if this is my train, is that during a time of injury or incident, could this open a can of worms where any league/entity can file a DCMA to prevent people from seeing problems, failures, injuries, that might be a possible lawsuit down the road to avoid a negative image?
