Fake News Story Results in Man Firing Rifle in Pizza Shop

Man fires rifle in D.C. restaurant at center of fake-news conspiracy theories

There is a fake "news story" floating around that alleges that
Hillary Clinton is running a child sex ring from the back of a pizza shop

Police in Washington, D.C., on Sunday arrested a North Carolina man after they said he walked into a popular pizza restaurant and began firing an assault rifle. The man, who sent customers and employees fleeing, told police he had come to “self-investigate” an election-related online conspiracy theory involving Hillary Clinton.

No one was injured.

Police arrested Edgar Maddison Welch, 28, of Salisbury, N.C. They said Welch walked into Comet Ping Pong, in the city’s Chevy Chase neighborhood, and pointed the rifle in the direction of an employee, who fled and called police.

Police said Welch then fired the rifle inside the restaurant.

Several neighboring businesses were locked down temporarily, The Washington Post reported. Welch was charged with assault with a dangerous weapon.

The restaurant, as well as its owner and staff, were at the heart of an ominous chain of events centering on fake news stories linked to Clinton.

In the days before the Nov. 8 election, Comet’s owner and employees said they were threatened on social media after fake news stories claimed that Clinton and her campaign chief, John Podesta, ran a child sex ring from the restaurant’s back rooms, which attract diners with ping pong tables.

James Alefantis, Comet's owner, told The New York Times that he received menacing messages such as “we’re on to you” on his Instagram feed. The messages soon turned to death threats, The Times reported, and Alefantis soon discovered dozens of "made-up articles" about Clinton kidnapping, molesting and trafficking children in the restaurant’s back rooms.

Alefantis, a Clinton supporter, said he had never met her and his 40 employees had unwittingly become "real people caught in the middle of a storm of fake news."

Alefantis, 42, suspected that a onetime relationship with David Brock, a former right-wing journalist who became an outspoken advocate for Clinton, may have made him a target.

On Sunday afternoon, Gareth Wade, 47, and Doug Clarke, 50, were sitting down for lunch around 3 p.m., when a server said "someone just walked in with a shotgun,” Wade told The Post.

Police: Fake News Story Led Man to Shoot Inside Pizza Shop

A man who said he was investigating a conspiracy theory about Hillary Clinton running a child sex ring out of a pizza place fired an assault rifle inside the Washington, D.C., restaurant on Sunday injuring no one, police and news reports said.

Metropolitan Police Department spokeswoman Aquita Brown said police received a call Sunday afternoon about a male with a weapon on Connecticut Avenue, in an affluent neighborhood of the nation's capital.

Edgar Maddison Welch, 28 of Salisbury, North Carolina, walked into the front door of Comet Ping Pong and pointed a firearm in the direction of a restaurant employee, the Washington Post (http://wapo.st/2gERkPC) reported.

The employee was able to flee and notify police. Welch then fired the gun into the floor.

Police responded and arrested Welch without incident. They recovered an "assault rifle," Brown said. Welch was charged with assault with a dangerous weapon.

Two firearms were recovered inside the restaurant and an additional weapon was recovered from the suspect's vehicle, police said in a statement on Sunday evening.

The Comet Ping Pong is in a neighborhood of well-tended private homes and apartment buildings on leafy streets that lead to a mix of shops, restaurants and the Politics and Prose book store. The restaurant gained notoriety during the presidential campaign after fake news stories stated that Hillary Clinton and her campaign chief ran a child sex ring out of the restaurant, The New York Times and other news organizations have reported.

Welch told police he'd come to the restaurant to "self-investigate" the fictitious online conspiracy theory that spread online during Clinton's run for the White House, the police statement said.

The Comet, its owner, staff and nearby businesses were caught up in an onslaught of conspiracy theories and fake news during the often contentious presidential campaign and were the victims social media attacks and death threats, the Post reported.

James Alefantis, owner of Comet Ping Pong, released a statement late Sunday night that denied what he called the "malicious and utterly false accusations" and said the company hoped to resume normal operations within a few days.

"I hope that those involved in fanning these flames will take a moment to contemplate what happened here today, and stop promoting these falsehoods right away," Alefantis said in the statement.

Re: Fake News Story Results in Man Firing Rifle in Pizza Shop

Funny, they today, are still questioning motive of the knife wielding Muslim.. Yet, 2 hours before any real official release from the arresting officers, media has motive on this incident.

Let's keep in mind, this is the same media that has been trying to publish articles of how pedophilia isn't a crime.

Investigative reporting in MSM is dead. If it wasn't, they'd actually consider the evidence, and create their own counter narrative. They have not. They simply started a counter campaign to convince people that it is fake-news, and conspiracy theories.

The pizzagate narrative has very little to do with Clinton, other than the fact she had a campaign manager linked to some very weird things, and leaked emails in wikileaks started the run down the rabbit-hole. This wasn't started on some fringe Alex Jones lizard people web-site, it started by people scouring the wikileak emails looking for incriminating evidence to attempt character assassination on a political figure. The leaked emails that started to link to pedophilia, satanic stuff, was all by coincidence and not started by a singular group of people but manifested by online sharing of found info.

I suggest people do the research themselves. Unfortunately the usual suspect of Illuminati, Alex Jones, and jews did everything crowed has picked up on the piece and ran with it, turning it into a circus.

Re: Fake News Story Results in Man Firing Rifle in Pizza Shop

Given what we've seen in Saville, in Hollywood, and the numerous politicians of both persuasions caught (including Democrat Weiner this year), why are people so desperate to insist that a child trafficking/porn ring is impossible in DC?

Is it straight loony as some of the theories go? Absolutely. They aren't serving the dead kids on pizza.

Is there more to the story with people including those with this z-rate pizzeria? Yes.

I'm betting the truth lies somewhere in between all that mess.

Let us not forget, what is considered "real news" isn't clear of being purveyors of violence. Just ask these three ladies and their gentleman friend.

Cronyism- There is mountains of evidence that something isn't right about this circle of people, yet, no one is willing to investigate it but instead campaign against the sources using key phrase tactics to try and get other people not to investigate it for themselves.

https://voat.co/v/pizzagate

I get how easy it is. I was once presented with the whole UK pedo ring conspiracy theory deal. The presentation of evidence was too overwhelming for me to take in all at once so I like so many people dismissed it as just a clog of muddled up BS-

This was different for me because I was there the moment the emails were released. I was part of the group that was digging through hundreds of pointless emails just to find key emails that pointed us in a direction of exposing POLITICAL corruption or foul playing on a political level. I watched it manifest from the "spirit cooking" shit, to the links between political people, NGOs, and business owners all tied to things like child trafficking and existing pedo records, and people conveniently dropping dead investigating it on their own. Not to mention an owner of a z-rated pizza dive being within the ranks of being considered a powerful man in DC-

Put all of that, in perspective to the photos on these people's social media, and even in the homes, as well as the company they like to keep on a non-political level. It is worthy of legit investigations from authority figures.

You could call the law this minute and tell them you seen your neighbor acting inappropriate with their kid. That neighbor would have child protective services, and the police, drawing up warrants for a full on investigation within a day. Why should we have, or convinced, to have a different attitude when it comes to these elites?

Here's an archive of the Pizza shop owner's Instagram. had this guy been on Trump's camp, these images would be ingrained into our sculls via MSM. instead, they are painting this guy as a victim of Trump's supporters, and calling it all fake.
