Re: Facility Found for Braindead Calif. Teen on Ventilator
I read that the only thing she had was a popsicle after the surgery. I am curious as to why she was in the ICU after a simple surgery. Even more alarming is the fact that the staff did nothing but give the family a cup to catch the blood. She should have been taken back to surgery not only to see why she was bleeding profusely but to actually fix it before she went into cardiac arrest. The coroner has already issued a death certificate for her dated like the 12th of December. How is that possible? This whole thing stinks to high heaven. I can certainly see why the family is in denial of the whole situation. There are hundreds of people that are brain dead on ventilators in nursing homes. Why the hospital is pushing for her to be taken off life support against the family's wishes is beyond me. As far as I can tell, the hospital is at fault for not taking action when she was bleeding profusely. |

Re: Facility Found for Braindead Calif. Teen on Ventilator
It wasn't a simple surgery. She had multiple surgical procedures done at one time. Her tonsils and adenoids were removed, her uvula was either wholly or partially removed and the tissue of her soft palate was removed and/or resculpted. That is major surgery in a very small, confined area of the body. Even if she "only had a Popsicle," prevailing comments have been that she should not have been speaking, let alone ingesting anything liquid or solid. Members of her family admitted they applied suction to clear the blood. They did not alert nurses for at least a minute or two. Suction can cause vagus nerve stimulation, which can lead to cardiac arrest. That's one of several things that could have happened. Jahi was issued a death certificate on December 12 because she was declared legally dead due to brain death. She remains in the hospital because of legal intervention. The only "life" in her is artificial. If the support was removed, her heart might beat independently for a short time, but cardiac death would come quickly. No, there are not "brain-dead" people just lying around in nursing homes. Learn a little about the persistent vegetative state and brain death. |

All of us may have thought "wow, that little girl is obese," but we used tact when stating our opinion.

Interesting how this, and much more information you have shared with us, has not been mentioned on the news. Certainly puts a different spin on this story, in terms of blame, partial or otherwise. I can't figure out how her mom can think that after almost a month without nutrition, her daughter would be ok, and suddenly might come out of this. (lack of brain activity aside). It's really sad to think how long this may drag out. |

What did they use for suction? If they did that without calling nurses thats messed up. My husband was in the hospital and as soon as something went wrong or looked remotely wierd I called somebody in. Did I read someone in her family was a nurse or was that my imagination?
