Unless the law has changed, the maximum you can get is 6 months prison time and/or a fine in England. Any animal cruelty case is dealt with the magistrates court and they can't sentence you to any more than 6 months for ANY crime. So if you happen to find yourself in crown court start to worry because there's a good chance they think you deserve more than 6 months.

Long time lurker but first post...

Sadly, abuse like this is far too common. I recently took a dog from a local shelter that had been shot, twice, with a shotgun at fairly close range. He had a huge hole in his back/shoulder and based on the maggot infestation, the vets estimated he had been shot at least a week before being found. He is absolutely the sweetest dog and has several people waiting to adopt him once he has fully healed. People that do things like that to defenseless animals are sick.
