Documentors of Farm Animal Abuse to Get Longer Jail Sentence Than Abusers "Legislation that would make it a criminal offense to gain employment on farms or in processing facilities under false pretense, and secretly take videos, is moving through the Iowa legislature. The bill would define shooting undercover video as “animal facility interference”. It would be considered an aggravated misdemeanor on the first conviction and a felony for second and subsequent convictions. Representative Annette Sweeney of Alden is the bill’s sponsor. “Whenever you’re hired in an egg facility, a hog facility, you go in and you sign a code of conduct,” Sweeney says. “You say if you see anybody abusing animals, you’re going to tell your employer that that person is doing that—and you are bound by that code of conduct.” Senator Sandy Greiner of Keota says the legislation is a response to actions by groups like HSUS and PETA, which have released video taken from inside livestock facilities. “I mean, they film it to bring a business down and that individual that’s abusing those animals should be prosecuted as well as the person filming because they’re allowing it to happen without attempting to stop it,” Greiner says. Iowa’s House Agriculture Committee approved the bill last week, with only one member voting against it. Representative Chuck Isenhart of Dubuque says the bill may be a violation of the First Amendment. “Dating back to the last century, we have investigative reporters in the context of their job exposing what at that time were very serious issues related to the slaughterhouse industry,” says Isenhart, “and I’m not suggesting any of that kind of stuff is occurring now—but to the extent that this may be perceived, the way it’s written, to chill that First Amendment right of the press, for that reason I’ll be voting against the bill.” A similar bill is expected to be introduced in the Iowa Senate." http://brownfieldagnews.com/2011/03/...bill-advances/ If you wish to sign a petition against this bill go here http://www.change.org/petitions/dont...lowers-in-jail Seriously, animal abusers get a slap on the wrist while the ones trying to stop it could possibly get up to 10 years. Someone needs to make humans go extinct already. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Re: Documentors of Farm Animal Abuse to Get Longer Jail Sentence Than Abusers I can, too.. that's what drives me insane about businesses like PETA.. they talk a good game about animal abuse, and use it for their own ends.. I completely agree that the people that video tape the abuse for their own means should be held accountable as well.. it's in the same vein as the good Samaritan laws.. they claim that even the smallest abuse is an atrocity, yet the have no problems watching the abuse to further their own agenda. |

They're not profiting over the torture, and would be in better straits financially if they got rid of the people treating the animals inhumanely. They do not make a profit by harming the animals, and like they said, instead of torture being reported so it could be handled in a legal way, the filmmakers just sat back and watched. But PETA capitalizes on every instance of abuse they see. They risk nothing while they use these videos for their own agenda. They're built on this shit. So.. corporations get slammed with huge fines and they have to pay money for the animals that are abused. PETA is set up themselves to make money from the torture. If they really cared, they'd be in there with lead pipes protecting the cows. But no.. they get film for their publicity, more likely to put a torture video on their website than in a court of law. In that way, they lure suckers in with "da poor animals" and you end up paying to support people that won't stand up for the animals they're exploiting. PETA profits from animal abuse. They're not these huge activists that get things done.. they're an advertising agency ready to slap their label on the next big thing to get their name out there. So yeah.. inhumanities happen in this business.. the difference is that the companies are trying to get rid of abusers, trying to weed them out bureaucratically.. they're not perfect, not trying to say that at all.. but they do have a system to remove those people. PETA.. well.. they'd rather have the people there so they can videotape them to further their own personal agenda.. they're not at risk of losing a multimillion dollar business, or their livelihoods. If you think about it, who's really profiting from the animals being hurt? In my opinion, the people that videotaped this earned every second of their sentence. |

Re: Documentors of Farm Animal Abuse to Get Longer Jail Sentence Than Abusers As well as the ones that sit there and watch it happen. I have only had the misfortune to see an animal abused once when I was younger. There was a basset hound pup wondering the street. The owner came around the corner and grabbed the pup by the neck and began to beat it with a rope. I yelled at him to quit and he told me to mind my own business and left. I followed him home and then went back to my house and called the cops. The people who video tape the animals being abused SIT there and WATCH the abuse and say nothing. They take their tapes to whoever it is that they are taping for and then call it a day. I wonder how many of them pat themselves on the back for a job well done. They could have EASILY have called the local SPCA and had them come out to investigate but they did not. Once again, I see where the Lawman is coming from. |
