Are you SURE and POSITIVE it applies to a homeowner who left while renovations were being done? That would mean the renovators, while admiring the work they've done, could legally take over the property. How could squatters have more rights than the dude who left to renovate?

I don't know...I own some properties and I can't even imagine how I would manage staying out of jail if squatters told me to fuck off and leave 'their' house. Do you know any history behind it? And how it wasn't stopped due to the unreasonable-ness of the law. It makes legal homeowners criminals if they try to get them out! No wonder UK is a squatters paradise.
