So when it came time to plan her funeral, they decided to take an unconventional approach. Rather than inside a casket, Burbank’s body was placed sitting in a chair near a circular table full of items that the woman loved, WGNO reported. She held a menthol cigarette in one hand and a glass of Busch beer in the other. She also had a case of Busch beside her and a disco ball above the table. Burbank’s daughters told the news program that their other family members appeared to like the unique setup. The ladies organized the entire living room-like funeral setting with the help of the directors of Charbonnet Funeral Home.  ·  · |

For those who didn't follow the link in the original article, WGNO is a local station out of my hometown of New Orleans. So not only is this not the first such type funeral to have been held in NOLA, but it also makes perfect sense to anyone familiar with the place. |

To each his own, I mean, if the family is OK with it, what the heck. Back in 1997, when my dad died, we put him in his flannel shirt, his BB cap and his favorite jeans. It was who he was, and sticking him in a suit would not have been cool. I remember feeling uncomfortable about it for a split second, as it was not the norm, but it was perfect for him. Can't say I would have propped him up with a rifle and fishing pole though!! LOL  |
