Take his badge for sure! Maybe some kind of attempted manslaughter charge. That's one blunder he won't be recovering from any time soon. Bad timing too - people are foaming at the mouth for a legitimate example of police brutality.

Yeah, if cops can't tell the difference then they need fucking shooting themselves. Do these guys even get trained in other ways of subduing people, other than get their guns out?

Plus when the guy asked the cop why he shot him he said he didn't know. Sounds like he's trying to wriggle out of it imo.

While I am not black, and not male, I am a caregiver, and this man acted exactly as I would in his situation. If some cop shot me in the leg while doing my job like that, some badges better be revoked, and I better be a millionaire pretty damn soon...fuck, that sucks!

North Miami city manager Larry M. Spring said Officer Jonathan Aledda, 30, a member of Miami’s SWAT unit who has served on the force for four years is responsible for mistakenly shooting Charles Kinsey while the therapist rushed to the aid of his troubled patient.

Aledda’s identity wasn’t revealed at first due to the death threats he’s been receiving since footage of the shooting went viral online.

Spring also revealed that a second police officer, Cmdr. Emile Hollant, has been suspended without pay for giving conflicting statements about the events surrounding the shooting while Aledda has already been placed on administrative leave.

According to Aledda's personnel files, Aledda had at least one complaint filed against him in 2013 after responding to an armed robbery in progress at a North Miami business on West Dixie Highway. (see pdf files)

North Miami, FL July 19, 2016 - The City of North Miami Police Department is committed to the community and is reaching out to the public asking for assistance in finding additional witnesses, digital photographs, or videos from last night’s police involved shooting at NE 14 Ave and NE 127 Street. The investigation is open and ongoing.

There is preliminary information that North Miami Police Officers were dispatched to the scene after a 911 call was received of an armed male suspect threatening suicide.

Arriving officers attempted to negotiate with two men on the scene, one of whom was later identified as suffering from Autism. The other man was later identified as an employee of an Assisted Living Facility.

At some point during the on-scene negotiation, one of the responding officers discharged his weapon, striking the employee of the ALF. He was transported to the Ryder Trauma Center with non-life threatening injuries. Per Departmental policy, the officer involved in the shooting has been placed on administrative leave.

The investigation continues with the assistance of the Miami-Dade State Attorney’s Office. Anyone who has additional information, or may have witnessed the incident is asked to call the North Miami Police Department.

The cop fired the rife three times at the patient before hitting the therapist. So he's either a seriously bad shot, or the gun sight on the rifle was way off. Since he responded "I don't know" I suspect it was the latter. Nonetheless, the 911 caller who told the cops that the patient had a gun and made them think the therapist was a hostage bears more blame in my mind that the cop that did the errant shooting.
