Colorado Man Fatally Shoots Stepdaughter Mistaken for Burglar
A 14-year-old Colorado girl mistaken for a burglar was shot and killed by her stepfather early on Monday morning at the home they shared, police said. Police in Colorado Springs were called to respond to a report of a burglary on the city's north side and arrived at the scene to find the girl gravely injured from a gunshot wound, according to a police statement. The girl was taken to a local hospital, where she was pronounced dead, said police spokesman Larry Herbert. "It has been determined that the victim's stepfather is the individual who shot the firearm, striking the victim who was a resident of the involved home," police wrote in a statement. No other details about the shooting, nor the identities of the victim or her stepfather, were released. Herbert said no arrests had been made and the case was referred to the district attorney's office to determine whether criminal charges were warranted. Colorado's so-called "Make My Day" law allows members of the public who face a home invasion to use deadly force if the intruder is believed to be committing a crime, immunizing the home owner from criminal prosecution or civil liability. http://au.news.yahoo.com/world/a/204...n-for-burglar/ |

So you only have to "believe" they are committing a crime in your home to kill them? "Officer I though my wife was the ham-bugler!!" Surprised this doesn't happen more often.. What a fucking paranoid idiot though. I hope they test him for drugs.. |

It's not an uncommon law.....we only hear on the news about the assholes that do stupid shit with the law. Where I live, you can legally kill a person if they are in the middle of committing a felony....doesn't happen much. Don't let the news fuck with you....just because laws like this exist doesn't mean people find excuses to use it. |

Re: Colorado Man Fatally Shoots Stepdaughter Mistaken for Burglar
What I mean is, his finger should have been off the trigger and he should have been asking who he had his gun pointed at....he shouldn't have been aiming at a target if he couldn't identify it. The muzzle should have been pointed at the ground. Technically, the idea behind defending yourself at home with a gun is to retreat to your room, call 911 and tell the intruder 'the police have been called....stay back, I have a gun' and you then defend your position...it's not smart to go 'hunting' in your home when you think there is an intruder. That's the idea anyway.... |
