Re: Cold Coffee, No View, Pens: Mass Murderer Breivik Complains About Prison Conditions

Anders Breivik, the far-right extremist who murdered 77 people during an attack in Norway, has been enrolled at the University of Oslo to study political science.

The 34-year-old is currently serving a 21 year sentence for detonating a bomb in Oslo's government district, before travelling to the Norwegian Labour Party's summer youth camp on the island of Utoya and shooting 69 people, mostly teenagers.

During his trial he described himself as a "militant nationalist" who killed to fight multi-culturalism in Norway.

Breivik has not been admitted to the degree-granting programme and will instead study modules whilst at the high security Skien prison where he is currently being detained, after carrying out his attack on 22 July 2011.

In an article written for The Guardian, the university argued that as an inmate in Norwegian law, he is entitled to pursue higher education on the basis of merit, as all Norwegian citizens are.

The university rector Ole Petter Ottersen said: "Having been admitted to study political science, Breivik will have to read about democracy and justice, and about how pluralism and respect for individual human rights, protection of minorities and fundamental freedoms have been instrumental for the historical development of modern Europe.

"Under no circumstances will Breivik be admitted to campus. But in his cell he will be given ample possibilities to reflect on his atrocities and misconceptions."

Mr Ottersen added that by sticking to the rules of admission they demonstrate to Breivik and the public that "our values are fundamentally different to his".

He may have got the maximum of 21 years that Norwegian courts are allowed to give someone, but it doesn't mean he will ever be released. If after completing his sentence it's deemed he hasn't been rehabilitated they can give him another 5 years, then another 5 and another 5. Effectively it means he will never be released.

Well I guess he can just keep getting degrees. They will probably let him be a professor and teach online or via Skype

They do the same thing in Canada, a life sentence comes with parole eligibility after 25 years...... Doesn't mean you're going to get it though.

Re: Cold Coffee, No View, Pens: Mass Murderer Breivik Complains About Prison Conditions

Terrorist Anders Breivik 'inhumane treatment' claim rejected by Norway

Published time: 3 Mar, 2016 16:23

Anders Breivik, the right-wing European terrorist who killed 77 people in 2011 and now enjoys Playstation in prison, had his claim of “inhumane” and “degrading” treatment rejected by the Norwegian government.

Ahead of a hearing later this month over what Breivik sees as a breach of the European Convention on Human Rights, Norway’s Office of the Attorney General has defended his jail conditions.

"The measures which have been applied to the plaintiff… are well within the limits of what is permitted" under the Convention, AFP reported, citing a government document published Wednesday.

The document also outlined Breivik’s prison conditions, which sees him able to move freely between three cells - one for living, one for studying, and a third for exercise.

The 37 year-old Odinist also has access to a TV, video games, and a computer which is "inhumanely" not connected to the internet.

Breivik can also prepare his own food and do his own laundry.

While he is not allowed interact with other inmates for security reasons, state lawyer Marius Emberland explained that he is "not totally excluded from all contact" as he interacts with guards and professional staff.

Breivik's lawyer, Oystein Storrvik, argues differently though, stating that his client has been subjected to "longstanding isolation for almost five years" and is suffering "clear isolation damage".

During Breivik's first two years in prison, his mother was the only non-professional to meet him and that was just before she died from cancer.

"They had around five minutes together during which they hugged," Storrvik said.

Currently serving a 21-year sentence, the maximum term under Norwegian law with the exception of selective extensions, his legal team initiated the case last October.

This followed a letter he wrote to prison authorities in November 2013 listing a number demands he wanted met or he would "go on hunger strike until death".

It seems Breivik believes his prison abode and its accessories are a little outdated, with one of his demands being a replacement of his antiquated Playstation 2 games console for the sleeker Playstation 3.
In addition to the PS3, Breivik is also seeking to update his games library, which it seems has been lacking a little adult orientation.

"Other inmates have access to adult games while I only have the right to play less interesting kids games. One example is ‘Rayman Revolution’, a game aimed at three year olds," Breivik wrote.

Breivik also hopes to add a little comfort to his three cells with his request for a sofa or armchair instead of his current "painful" chair.

"You've put me in hell ... and I won't manage to survive that long. You are killing me," he added.

In 2012, Breivik also raised a number of complaints with prison staff, including a lack of candy, moisturizer, and coffee that wasn't cold.

Oh FFS

He should be in angola/Louisiana state Pen.

The other inmates could REALLY enjoy him! And he would have LOTS of social contact.

Re: Cold Coffee, No View, Pens: Mass Murderer Breivik Complains About Prison Conditions

21 years-sentence is the country's maximum, but since it can be indefinitely extended, he has virtually no hope of release, ever.
Good, executing him would be too easy. Let him rot in solitary confinement for the rest of his life.
