Had they had proper distance, then they would have had time. They would have had time to seek cover, assess the situation, and give proper verbal commands...the outcome would have been completely different. If the dispatcher had given the critical details...young kid and possible toy gun...but it probably wouldn't have made any difference in the outcome...the coppers put themselves too close to the bad guy and forced themselves to react too quickly. Distance=time & safety.
Even then, we'd have to assess the surrounding events, out of view of the camera though. To much space could be disastrous in the event of an actual exchange of fire. In a public safety sense.

true...but there was no exchange of fire...no shots were even fired...they should've parked up somewhere and assessed the situation properly

it was just a kid waving around a realistic looking but non-lethal gun..

Just many precautionary things could have been in play, or not.

Really it amounts to the urgency in the dispatch communications. And the level of drive it caused for the officer's reassessment of the situation.

Example.

black male brandishing a gun.

Vs

black male aggressively pointing a gun at pedestrians.

Cops get urgency of situation via radio. In their mind, they didn't know exact age of kid. They probably were told the aggressive nature of the "black male", and were over hyped before getting to the scene.

Imagine hanging out all day handing out driving while license suspended tickets all day, texting the wife, and your next radio call is "black male aggressively pointing firearms at pedestrians."

I know we have seen enough hollywood, to think it is feasible, they pull up, get out and hide behind their cars, get all Danny Glover, as a vetran negotiator, talk the fire arm right out folks.

While it is plausible, it isn't likely to happen all of the time.

If someone tried to pull something like that on me I wouldv kilt him too. If they are going to have "toy" or BB/Pellet guns they should be made in hunter orange.

that much is pretty obvious seeing as you think and talk like a psychopath....

your visions of grandiosity are laughable...you are nothing but an egotistical, racist thug who once worked for the police...

Most cops are great people, but the minority gives the rest of them a bad rap.
For once I can finally say we agree!!

In stark contrast to this officers outcome.
*Officers "actions"

Your post stands in stark contrast to being an independent.

So why have you thrown a fit because someone blocked you? Don't pretend you're not, soon after you get blocked by a cop or ex cop. You immediately start posting threads that are critical of cops. Basically trolling him.

I wonder which political affiliation that behavior mimics....

His political affiliation would that of the "Asshole Troll Party" or the "I'm Gonna Say I'm An Independant, But I'm Really From The Hardcorp Anti-Police Progressive Party."

I'm sorry...isn't trolling a big deal here on DR? Don't folks get in big trouble for stuff like that? Is it me, or aren't we noticing this trolling pattern by several of our more contentious and inflamitory DR members?
