Steve's right as well. If the police get involved, he'll get in trouble for carrying a nightstick. A couple of the bouncers that worked the door when I used to work in a pub got arrested for carrying nightsticks.

We used to keep hockey sticks in the car. And when you get into trouble just throw them in the bushes before the police get there.
