The first thing they teach you in competitive sports is that, at the end, it's all a game, and both sides should be respectful to the other, REGARDLESS of what's going on outside of the field. This is why after a martial arts fight, both sides bow to the other, to show RESPECT.

You wanna make a political statement, take it off the fucking court. If your opponent followed the rules of the tournament, you are OBLIGATED to show them the courtesy they deserve.

Otherwise, you're just a poor sport who has no business competing professionally.

This competitor respect rule is why I hated all organized sports and especially the coaches. Best team sports are back lot pickup games, where players call a spade a spade and earn their respect on and off the field.
