August 2nd Deadline is Coming Up Pretty Quick
Obama Criticizes Boehner Plan Updated: Saturday, 30 Jul 2011, 9:12 AM CDT Published : Saturday, 30 Jul 2011, 9:12 AM CDT (NewsCore) - WASHINGTON -- President Barack Obama on Saturday again called on Democrats and Republicans to strike a debt-ceiling deal while criticizing the plan passed Friday evening in the House of Representatives and singling out House Republicans for being unwilling to compromise. In his weekly address, Obama said that Republicans in the House of Representatives had "spent precious days" working on a plan that both he and Senate leaders said that they would not support. The plan "would hold our economy captive to Washington politics once again," he said. US House Speaker John Boehner's (R-Ohio) plan to raise the debt limit was approved Friday evening in the House, 218-210. But in order to gain the final votes needed, an amendment was added that would force Congress to balance the budget before raising the debt ceiling again. Under Boehner's bill the debt ceiling would need to be raised next year. Senate Democrats rejected the bill later that evening, instead championing a plan authored by Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.). Reid scheduled the last of a series of Senate votes on a debt plan for Monday or Tuesday to put maximum pressure on House Republicans. "Democrats in Congress and some Senate Republicans have been listening and have shown themselves willing to make some compromise," Obama said. "Now all of us, including Republicans in the House of Representatives, need to demonstrate the same kind of responsibility that the American people show every day." The Republican response was given by Sen. Jon Kyl (R-Ariz.) also focusing on the debt crisis, which he said was caused by excessive spending under Democrats. For this reason Republicans believe that "raising the debt ceiling without making significant spending reductions would be irresponsible," he said. Refuting claims Democrats have made, that Republicans' refusal to accept tax increases means the deficit will be decreased on the backs of middle-class Americans, Kyl said "in order to afford the kind of government this President wants, taxes would have to be increased dramatically, and for middle-income Americans, not just on the wealthy." "No one will get everything they want," he added. "But surely we can reach an agreement that will increase the debt ceiling, impose accountability, and begin reducing the size of our federal government." Copyright (c) 2011 Dow Jones & Company Inc. Most of your money is being spent on war. Do you know that Boeing overcharged you people by 135% yes ONE HUNDRED AND THIRTY FUCKING FIVE PERCENT for spares and parts. For the $10 million that should have been paid. Your government shelled out $23 million.

Re: August 2nd Deadline is Coming Up Pretty Quick
Boehner has no control over the Tea Party, if things go into default it will be catastropic but the Tea Party doesn't give a fuck. The Tea Party is THE issue here...... Democrats have offered to cut spending, the Tea Party won't allow the ending of Bush's tax cuts.... So basically they are continuing Bush's failed economic policys of letting companys like General Electric pay NO taxes. |
