Amber Alert Issued for Maryland Girl, Whos Mother Was Murdered by Father

Caitlyn Marie Virts and her father, Timothy Virts, 38, whom she's suspected of being with, are wanted by Baltimore police after her disappearance Thursday morning. Caitlyn is 5-feet tall and weighs 80 pounds. Virts is possibly driving a black 1999 Dodge Durango with Maryland plates (5AJ4458).

Police have issued a warrant charging the father of a missing 11-year-old Maryland girl with her mother's murder.

Friday's arrest warrant for Timothy Virts, 38, comes almost exactly 24 hours after Baltimore County police declared his daughter, Caitlyn Marie Virts, missing from her Dundalk home where a homicide took place.

Police responding to a cardiac arrest call at her home around 9:13 a.m. Thursday say they located the body of Bobbie Jo Cortez, 36, a mother of three.

The woman was discovered with multiple cut wounds to her upper body, said police. The official cause of death is pending the medical examiner's autopsy which is expected Friday.

"Police are concerned for the safety of Caitlyn Marie Virts since she is not supposed to be with her father," officers said in a release.

Caitlyn is described as white, 5-feet tall and weighing 80 pounds. She's possibly wearing glasses, but it is unknown what else she might be wearing.

Timothy Howard Virts and his daughter Caitlyn Marie Virts have been found and an Amber Alert canceled, according to Baltimore County police and fire officials.

They were located at a motel in Florence, S.C. Caitlyn appears to be unharmed, and her father is in police custody.

Caitlyn, 11, had last been seen around 7 a.m. Thursday in Dundalk, Md.

Police announced Friday that they have obtained a warrant charging Timothy Virts with murder after finding 36-year-old Bobbie Jo Cortez dead inside her Dundalk home a day earlier.

High-Profile Alexandria Murders Appear to be Related

Investigators believe expanding the Amber Alert nationally, including digital billboards, led to Caitlyn being found.

Investigators say Cortez lived in the home with her three children -- Caitlyn, Caitlyn's twin sister and a son -- and two other adults. For the past several weeks, the victim had also allowed 38-year-old Timothy Virts to live in the home, police said.

Someone in the home noticed Caitlyn and Timothy were missing after finding the body; the Amber Alert was issued at 10:46 a.m. Thursday.

Police were looking for a 1999 black Dodge Durango with Maryland license plates 5AJ4458 that authorities said was registered to Cortez's husband, Daniel Williams Cotez, who is being held at the Baltimore County Detention Center on various sex offense charges.

Caitlyn will be returned home as soon as possible, police said. Detectives are on their way to South Carolina.

Timothy Virts' return is pending extradition.
