Re: 55-gallon Drum Containing Remains Found in Building Where Woman Lived.

**Update**

The Jersey Heights waitress whose remains were discovered Friday in a 55-gallon cement-filled drum was likely strangled and then placed in the container bent over, authorities said today.

The remains of Jersey City waitress Randy "Amanda" Lehrer were found encased in cement inside a 55-gallon drum in the basement of the Charles Street apartment where she lived.

Her husband, Steven Acuna, 38, was arrested late Friday night in Toms River and charged in the murder. "We believe this occurred during the course of a domestic violence situation and it could be that she was strangled," Hudson County Prosecutor Edward DeFazio said today. "We believe it happened shortly after she was last seen alive."

Acuna is being held on $1 million bail at the Hudson County Correctional Facility and is expected to make his first appearance on the murder charges tomorrow at Central Judicial Processing Court in Jersey City via a videolink with the jail.

From the start of the investigation, Acuna was considered person-of-interest and was briefly held on outstanding warrants, DeFazio said.

After he was released, he relocated to Toms River, DeFazio said.

Shortly after the Lehrer's disappearance, Jersey City police used cadaver dogs to search the couple's apartment, but no evidence of foul play was found.

"Last week, based on further investigation, Jersey City police ascertained that tenants in the building had access to the basement. Based on that information they got permission from the owner of the property to inspect the basement," DeFazio said.

"They discovered this barrel that was hidden by construction-type debris," DeFazio said. "And when they saw the barrel, based on good intuition, they said something didn't look right about the barrel."

The barrel was opened and Lehrer's remains were found "encased" in concrete, according to DeFazio. There was no evidence that she was dismembered. "It is almost like she was bent, folded," the prosecutor said.

As investigators examined the remains, they did see a tattoo or tattoos and they realized it was a woman, DeFazio said. "Although there was decomposition, they were of a mind that it was Amanda. Then, further corroboration was obtained at the time of autopsy" on Saturday, he said.

DeFazio declined to say what, if anything, Acuna told investigators when he was brought back to Jersey City and formally charged.

The couple's 11-month-old daughter was initially taken in by her paternal grandfather, but DeFazio wasn't sure yesterday who was caring for the little girl.

WTF? This is not rocket science for fucks sake! Almost everyone who lives in a NY or NJ appartment has access to the basement. Especially if it's an apt. bldg! So what took these morons so long to check it out?

Whose in charge of these fuckwit cops? Capt. Obvious?

Crazy how close geographically it is. I think one of my friends knew her. She looks very familiar.
