3 Dead in Pennsylvania Town Hall Shooting
A gunman opened fire on a town supervisors meeting north of Philadelphia on Monday night, killing three people and wounding two others, police said. Pennsylvania state police dispatcher Tyler Graumenz confirmed that three people were killed and said a suspect was in custody at an area hospital. The gunman reportedly was shot by a local official. A Pocono Record reporter at the Ross Township meeting said the gunman shot through the wall with an automatic pistol outfitted with a scope. "I saw smoke and plaster flying out, blowing out through the walls," reporter Chris Reber wrote in a first-person account. After the fusillade, the gunman retrieved a second weapon from his car and returned to the building, Reber said. Inside, the executive director of the West End Open Space Commission, Bernie Kozen, was tending to one wounded man. Kozen then "bear-hugged" the gunman, took him down and shot the suspect with his own gun, Reber reported. The identities of the dead and wounded were not immediately released, Graumenz said. The county's emergency management chief, Guy Miller, told CNN the shooting happened just after 7:30 p.m. ET. The supervisors meet the first Monday of the month in the municipal building in Saylorsburg. |
